BEYOND THE CALL
On November 23, 2019 during visitation at Ware State Prison, a young child began choking. A call for assistance was made by Officer McNeal and Lieutenant (Lt.) Hammock, along with Sergeant (Sgt.) Brummet responded. The facility immediately contacted Ware County Emergency Services for assistance. When the Lt. and Sgt. arrived at the visitation room, the small child was struggling to breathe. The pair began conducting the infant Heimlich maneuver to dislodge the obstruction. After a few attempts, the obstruction became dislodged and the child began breathing on its own.
When Emergency Medical Services arrived, they were able to examine the child’s vitals and medically clear them. Thanks to the quick actions of everyone involved, the child and his mother were able to continue their visit with their loved one.
