T h e D e t r o i t Yo u t h C h o i r ’s registration fee per year is $200 with the guarantee that parents participate in fundraisers during the year. During the summer the organization normally takes a break until the fall, but we are integrating a DYC summer training initiative for summer 2013. Talk about performing arts and the importance the arts are in the lives of teens. Performing arts is a way for all people young and old to express themselves through music, theatre and dance. For the youth of DYC it’s a way for them to express themselves through our shows and performances to the community and the world. Most of our youth have a lot on their shoulders, and singing sometimes help them relax. We have to remember, some of our students don’t really want to be there, but it’s only because they don’t see the big picture of how the arts are helpful to them in the long run, but as they stick with the program they usually come around and began to love it. Share some short stories of how your group has made an impact in the community. DYC has impacted the community by telling historic, life lesson, music appreciation stories to our audiences. We have perform everything from Broadway shows, Disney shows, Motown shows to Stopping the Violence in our community. We do a wide variety of performances and that’s how people defines DYC. We are out the box and not your normal youth group. Discuss your passion for inspiring youth and the source of that passion. I love young people, it stems from my love of the group that inspired me and my love for music, The Boys Choir of Harlem. The BCH gave the inspiration I needed to love the youth by their commitment to young people, I felt that I can love the youth and create something here in Detroit that models the same vision and purpose as the great Boys Choir of Harlem. Even though DYC is a baby group and we still have a long way to go, we are on the right track. We need help in Grant writing, if there is someone out there that knows how to write a grant and you are willing to donate your time and knowledge in that area that would really help the children and our organization. Please contact us @ 313. 587. 6088 with your suggestions and or help. Have you ever recorded with the group? Any upcoming music projects? DYC has recorded live 3 or 4 years ago with a local gospel artist Rodriguez Linson in which we perform 2 original song and a South African song on the same recording, DYC has also appeared on Fox 2 News Detroit, PBS Television, and the children show Keys Kids. Our upcoming productions includes “Make me Wanna Holla”, Legend 3, Back on Broadway Revue 3, and a Studio Recording of American Music Hits. Tell Impact Detroit Magazine about your upcoming events for the summer that we can come see. June 1st 2013 is a production written by one of our Alumni Daniel Valentine, “Make Me Wanna Holla” a story about teen coping with the violence in the City of Detroit. This will be our first play/musical, and also we have our Summer Workshop Training Camp coming up that will prepare our youth for the upcoming season. Thank you so much Mr White for your taking the time to share with our Impact Detroit readers great story!
