With the support of several generous parents,
neighbours and community partners, LCIS unveiled a
new sailing programme to overwhelming success. Eight
optimist boats were acquired and a new floating dock
was installed to support the development of sailors
as young as six. Coach Keir Clarke takes the lines this
fall to continue the training to international standards
and is already increasing the number of opportunities
students have to get out on the water, whether it is
sailing for fun or to compete. The students’ time spent
sailing broadens their exposure to a different type of
sporting activity that instills self-confidence and spatial
awareness, while developing their relationship to the
natural world and connection to The Bahamas.
Keir Clarke is an experienced maritime professional and sailing
instructor with over 15 years of experience. Before joining
LCIS, he was the Sailing Director of the Turks & Caicos Islands
Sailing Association. He has a strong racing background, having
won multiple National and International titles in the Optimist,
Topper and Laser Classes and was crowned 2004 Laser
Standard European Youth Champion. He was a member of the
British Olympic Development Squad from 2003 to 2006.
