IMPACT: Annual Report : 2018-19 | страница 6

Dear LCIS Community, Michèle, Johnny and I are pleased to have returned to LCIS after three years working in China. We are highly appreciative of the warm welcome that we have received from the school community. During the three years I was away, some of our LCIS graduating students have gained entry to top universities including Oxford, Georgetown, Stanford and Columbia to name a few. We were National Champions for boys and girls senior football; we’ve counted Primary School Student of the Year and National Spelling Bee champions among our ranks. I could fill a page with the broad range of accomplishments of LCIS students. The first quarter of the 2019-20 school year has gone by quickly - LCIS is as fast-paced as ever. We welcomed 12 new staff this year. Four of us are returning to The Bahamas after varying periods of absence. Our vision to Inspire Excellence requires us to lead every student to be his or her best self. We balance the development of skills, knowledge and character through our challenging International Baccalaureate programmes. Further, we provide exposure to new passions through our transformative co-curricular and elective programmes. We facilitate students exploring their sporting passions through our Elite and Developmental Sports programmes. This Annual Report contains a summary of the school’s financial picture and fundraising outcomes. We are committed to a conservative approach to spending and budgeting so that your generous support has maximum impact and benefits toward student learning. The ongoing support we receive through donations made by our community members enables us to provide high-standard professional development to our teachers and an array of facility and programme enhancements. In this school year, we plan to provide in-depth training with respect to MAP testing, training to maintain and enhance high-standard delivery of our IB programmes and partial support for our teachers who are pursuing advanced qualifications. We have planned reciprocal visits to schools who exemplify strengths in areas where we seek to grow and improve. YOUR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT ENABLED 35 FACULTY to complete further IB Training 6 23 FACULTY to be trained in advanced use of MAP Growth test results 100% 12 TEACHERS to take a Harvard University Course for critical thinking 17 FACULTY to receive science standards training 6 Improvement to our facilities continues, with the first phase of the new Upper School campus on schedule for opening in the Fall of 2020. The buildings are taking shape with roof tiers and windows going in as I write. We have ambitious plans for novel uses of the Lower School campus soon after our move to two campuses. With the new facilities we are developing, our hardworking, enthusiastic and talented teaching team, our supportive and engaged parents and our committed Board of Directors and Governors, there is no end to what we can achieve.
