Capital Improvements is the
Annual Fund’s most diverse
funding category.
Support for
this area allows the school to
fund major renovation projects
that exceed the allocation for
maintenance and facilities in the
typical operating budget. Annual
Fund capital contributions also
support the school’s ability to
go outside the annual budget
for large one-off purchases of
furniture and technology. By
not having to use tuition for
these occasional expenses, more
of the operating budget can
be dedicated to teaching and
learning while also providing
students
with
cutting-edge
equipment and spaces to learn in.
Due to generous parent support
of the Gala’s Fund-a-Need
appeal, we have been able to
enhance the functionality of the
recently completed Dingman Hall
14
multipurpose space. This summer,
a stage was installed along with
200 comfortable chairs that
allow student assemblies and
performances to occur in the
space. Rehearsals have already
begun for the musical production,
“Annie” and students from Grades
1-12 have regular assemblies in the
air-conditioned space. Parents
have also enjoyed the formal space
for meetings and presentations.
By the end of December, a state-
of-the-art audio-video system
will be completed and include a
projection device, screen, speaker
system and soundboard. Curtains,
window shades and stage lights
will complete the outfitting. Our
gratitude continues to go out to
all those donors who helped make
this long-awaited wish come true.
Additional capital improvements
were made in the Early Learning
Centre (ELC) to improve the
quality of play for the youngest
learners. Shade sails were
extended over the play structure
and now create maximum
coverage for outdoor activities.
For technology, over $115K of
donated funds were allocated
to hardware to support teaching
and
learning.
Twenty-seven
teacher laptops were replaced
and a new multifunction copier/
printer was installed. Forty-two
iPads were purchased for the
ELC and elementary schools to
replace units that were at the
end of their life cycle. There
is now a 1:1 device ratio in
Grade 1 and up. In addition, 38
laptops were purchased for the
elementary school, including a
full new class set for Grade 4
and supplemental machines for
Grades 3 and 5.
