Buster makes a friend
river. The other tigers in the compound were beginning to get agitated with all the commotion. When the tigers saw the jeep, they calmed down because they knew the rangers.
“ I guess that bear must have got in by the small side gate because someone did not close it properly,” said Osman.“ But how did the bear escape from his compound and why are the tigers trying to claw their way up that tree instead of swimming after the bear?”
The rangers soon calmed the two tigers with a special helping of meat. The tigers took the meat off to their platform to eat and completely forgot about Buster. Then the rangers shone their searchlight up into the trees but they could not see anything. Patrick had long disappeared into the night.
“ How did the bear escape...”
They were puzzled but they had to get Buster off the island and out of the tigers’ compound. Once it got light, the tigers would wake up. Buster was so scared he would not come off the island in case the tigers attacked again.
Juli, the junior keeper got out of the jeep and went down to the river bank. She slipped in the mud and fell into the river. She was being swept down stream when she managed to grab a branch and haul herself onto the island. Now there were two of them on the island – an extremely wet ranger and an extremely scared bear.
“ Now what do we do?” said Jem, the driver.“ We have to rescue Juli and the bear before the tigers decide to go after them.”
