Q&A
Q: When installing a new Digital Cinema system in my booth, what other
work needs to be done to support the Digital Cinema system?
A: The facility considerations are:
1.
Electrical power
2.
Proper temperature, humidity, and air cleanliness of the booth
atmosphere
3.
Lamp house exhaust
4.
Ethernet network and Internet access (for remote support &
diagnostics)
These items seem very simple to handle, yet all too often they are
inadequate, late in coming, or altogether overlooked. Having a
thorough site survey performed at the beginning of the planning phase,
and having an effective Project Manager overseeing the installation
phase can avoid many obstacles.
Q: Must we upgrade the audio system for a new Digital Cinema system?
A: Upgrade of the audio system is always recommended with the
installation of a new Digital Cinema system. However, common sense is
best applied here. If the existing audio system has been performing well
with a 5.1 digital film sound system, then likely it is adequate to be used
for Digital Cinema.
Q: Must we use a NOC (Network Operations Center)?
A: Connection to a NOC is mandated by most of the VPF agreements.
The connection to a NOC service is a wise choice as the various NOC
service providers offer various levels of service to fit most budgets. In
addition, this remote network connection can save the cinema money in
service calls and lost shows for many issues that arise.
