Back to School Drive 2018
Interventional Radiology
Interventional Radiology has once again teamed with Lakeland Elementary School for our annual back-to-school drive!
Lakeland Elementary / Middle School is a Title 1 school in southwest Baltimore that serves nearly 800 students from Pre-K to 8th Grade. As a community school, Lakeland provides resources beyond the classroom for the surrounding neighborhood. Over the last 3 years, Lakeland School has been an environmental steward through environmental education and the establishment of a schoolyard habitat that can be used as an outdoor laboratory as well as a green space for the neighborhood. Lakeland's campus consists of 7 acres of mostly grassland with 2 school buildings, a playground and about 3/4 of an acre planted with native plants, vegetables, fruit trees, and alley trees. In addition to the growing number of schoolyard projects, students at Lakeland have been actively engaged in recycling, composting, energy reduction, and overall increased environmental awareness.
Teachers are able to ”shop” the table of donations so their classrooms get exactly what is needed. We are proud to support this school and its many students, who give back to our community in so many ways!
Special thanks to Leslie O’Connell and Gina Bennett, who led this incredible undertaking!
