Scale
Small details make a body look smaller, large details make a body look heavier.
Proportion
Unequal proportions are more interesting than equal portions. Opt for a 1/3 or 2/3 proportion in your dressing to give that 'wow' look! Besides, it helps to elongate your lower legs or upper torso should you be at petite size.
Texture
To appear thinner, look for fabrics that are medium to lightweight which are crisp, but not stiff. Very stiff fabrics appear to add weight to the body. Dull or matte finish textures absorb light and generally make the figure look smaller.
Small to medium prints on small to average body scale, and medium prints on bigger body figures. Bigger prints can also work if you're a plus-size but the pattern must complement your body shape.
