FLEET AUTOMATION
our people. By reducing the need for onboard operators, the FrontRunner system significantly minimises employee exposure to potential hazards, while enhancing more predictable fleet performance, better fuel consumption and continuous operations – all of which contribute to a safer, more sustainable future for mining.”
“ We’ re proud to partner with Nevada Gold Mines on this transformative initiative,” Braden Weisheit, General Manager of Mining Technology Solutions at Komatsu, said.“ The scale and ambition of this deployment mark a major milestone for autonomous mining in America. This collaboration reflects Komatsu’ s commitment to delivering proven, world-class solutions tailored to our partners’ needs.”
To support the performance and reliability of this cutting-edge system, Sedna and Nokia will deploy a customised 5G communications infrastructure. This tailored network will provide the highspeed, low-latency connectivity required for seamless system performance, real-time data exchange and safe, remote equipment operation.
“ This collaboration demonstrates how technology leaders can come together to create powerful, future-ready solutions,”
Peter Dormehl, Sedna CEO, said.“ The 5G network will provide the robust foundation needed to support high-performance, safetycritical operations.”
Don Leyn, Director of Sales, Mining, of sales, reiterated this message, saying,“ Together, we are building more than just connectivity, we’ re creating a network solution built for the future and for today.” NGM, Komatsu, Sedna and Nokia are laying the groundwork for a smarter, safer and more efficient operating model – marking the beginning of a powerful collaboration rooted in shared values and a collective vision for a better tomorrow.
Cat marks 1 Mt milestone at Luck Stone with 777 fleet
Caterpillar Inc and Luck Stone, the USA’ s largest family-owned and operated producer of crushed stone, sand and gravel, in July announced a significant milestone in their ongoing collaboration: 1 million tons autonomously hauled at Luck Stone’ s Bull Run Quarry in Chantilly, Virginia.
The achievement marks a first for Caterpillar in the aggregates industry and it says underscores the success of Caterpillar’ s autonomous haulage system( AHS) in a quarry environment. It adds that
the milestone demonstrates the safety and productivity of autonomy beyond traditional large mining applications.
“ This milestone is a powerful demonstration of what’ s possible when we collaborate with our customers to deliver solutions for their critical needs. Reaching one million tons hauled autonomously at Bull Run shows that autonomy isn’ t just for mining – it’ s scalable, reliable, and ready to transform the aggregates industry. We’ re proud to collaborate with Luck Stone to lead that transformation,” said Denise Johnson, Group President, Resource Industries, Caterpillar.
Charlie Luck, President and CEO, Luck Companies, stated:“ This autonomous journey with Caterpillar has been one of the most powerful and transformative projects in our 100-year history. What once felt like a dream at our Bull Run site is now a reality – thanks to the trust, collaboration, and shared commitment between our teams. Reaching the one million tons hauled milestone has engaged every part of our operation, from training and mine planning to operating efficiency and teamwork, proving that this technology can work, and work well, in a quarry environment. Most importantly, it’ s creating opportunities for our associates
