It is fair to say that running a small fleet autonomously is relatively straightforward with the experience ASI Mining already had , but making sure it consistently outperformed the staffed fleet , dayin-day-out , and under a wide array of operating conditions , required a different approach and skill set . Bringing in experienced mining and automation experts with real in- field experience was instrumental to highlight little inefficiencies and how to resolve them best . This required a lot of effort and time .
Since announcing the completion of the Product Verification stage at Roy Hill , interest in ASI Mining ' s solution has increased from other mining companies , whether they are greenfield or brownfield operations . The flexibility offered by ASI Mining ' s system on different makes of trucks and on both old and new fleets has garnered attention . While some companies may still perceive ASI Mining as a newcomer in the autonomous mining space , ASI Mining is confident that witnessing the system in action will help reducing the perceived risks . The confidence Roy Hill placed in ASI Mining , demonstrated by their decision to deploy 96 autonomous trucks , serves as a testament to the system ' s reliability . Scalability is an ongoing challenge for all autonomous systems , and for ASI Mining as well . To meet this challenge , ASI Mining early on set up a fully dedicated scalability lab with a team of engineers working tirelessly to ensure smooth expansion . This effort is particularly critical as ASI Mining sets out to build the largest single autonomous mine in the world over the next 12 months .
ASI Mining recently established a global support and deployment hub in Perth , Western
Australia , with an engineering team to support the Roy Hill and other future deployments . This highly specialised team of AHS system , mechanical and electrical engineers , with extensive AHS industry experience , will support future deployments in Australia and around the globe . By combining the Perth and Utah-based organisations , they now have 24 / 7 support capability in the main mining markets , augmented by the Epiroc organisation who plays the role of global distributors and provides the bulk of the on-the-ground support network . In total there are now close to a 100 people working on this massive AHS deployment programme as it is working around the clock to create the largest single autonomous mine in the world with the world ’ s first proven OEM agnostic and interoperable AHS solution .
