FLSmidth ’ s AFP2500 making its mark
FLSmidth has introduced a cutting-edge addition to its established AFP-IV ( Automated Filter Press ) filter portfolio , known as the AFP2500 . This machine is available in both Recessed Chamber and Membrane Squeeze configurations , and the company told IM that it boasts the title of having the world ' s largest cake volume and filtration surface area within the 2.5 m format filter category . It is available with a volume of up to 38 m 3 and a filtration surface area exceeding 2,000 m 2 . This innovative filter has been strategically designed to play a pivotal role in FLSmidth ' s MissionZero initiative and sustainability goals .
During development , the FLS filtration team exhibited a comprehensive approach . They say they did not solely concentrate on enhancing the maintainability and efficiency of the filter itself but also conducted an in-depth analysis of the optimisation and efficiency of the auxiliary components essential for the machine ' s operation . The filter features dual upper feed eyes , ensuring consistent cake formation within each chamber of the filter while also allowing for the removal of the filter media in groups of twenty , without the need to remove the entire filter plates . Furthermore , the filter is equipped with a state-of-the-art cloth shaking system that employs high-amplitude , low-frequency shaking action to ensure the discharge of cakes onto the conveyor below .
FLSmidth also dedicated considerable effort to the design of the filter ' s high flow / low pressure cloth washing system , recognising that washing the cloth every cycle increases the cloth ’ s longevity and significantly impacts a plant ' s OPEX . Unlike traditional fixed wash headers prone to misalignment as plate links wear and the filter stack grows , this optimised system employs spray nozzles attached to the cloth shaking bars on each plate . This innovative approach ensures perfect alignment of the nozzles with the media surface while washing is taking place , ensuring the most effective washing process .
FLSmidth has also developed a comprehensive cloth maintenance system to complement the AFP2500 . This maintenance system equips operators with the necessary tools and equipment for routine cloth maintenance while providing a set of optimised maintenance procedures . Included in the system is a highpressure cloth washing station , enabling operators not only to rejuvenate clogged filter media but also to thoroughly inspect it for mechanical damage before returning it to service . Remarkably , the maintenance system can service multiple filters , allowing operators to maintain , rejuvenate , and inspect the media while all filters remain operational , maintaining consistent throughput tonnage .
Since its launch , FLSmidth has secured a contract for three AFP2500 filters destined for Buenaventura , specifically for their San Gabriel operation in Peru . These filters are each equipped with 116 chambers and are designed to dewater 3,000 t / d metric of gold tailings . Operating under the extreme elevation conditions of approximately 5,000 m above sea level ( masl ) at the site , FLS engineers have finetuned the filter ' s compressed air and hydraulic systems to ensure reliable performance under
