WORLD PROSPECTS

A new generation of Paus utility vehicles

Hermann Paus Maschinenfabrik GmbH has launched the UNIVERSA 55 , a new 15 t carrier generation with a lot of improvements , like more comfort , more flexibility and higher productivity . Many synergies have also been created with Paus machines already established on the market . This ensures uniform control with proven technology across different Paus machines .

The new Paus UNIVERSA 55 offers more flexibility and comfort for the driver . The spacious cab is suspended , insulated , and airconditioned to ensure a pleasant , more healthy and safe working environment for up to three persons . The cab also features a full-suspension front axle , based on the robust and proven technology of MinCa series and the 17 t dump truck PMKM 8030 . This suspension system gives the benefits to improve the speed , productivity , safety and comfort for operations in rough terrain .
The vehicle has a new operating concept with modern display and joystick operation . The display enables the operator to have a full overview of the machine status . The joystick operation for the cassette makes the handling from the cabin much more intuitive and comfortable .
Another highlight is the latest generation of the Power Shift transmission with manual and automatic gear shifting , which enables a maximum speed of 30 km / h in every terrain .
The modular design of the machine provides easy access for maintenance and repair and simplifies shaft transport . In addition , it gives maximum flexibility in production and shorter delivery times to customers . The machine can be customised with a high variety of options like different seat configurations , multiple safety features and additional devices like high pressure cleaner , welding or generator devices .
The UNIVERSA 55 can also be equipped with an interchangeable frame for cassette systems , saving capex and providing high flexibility . This guarantees a faster return on investment for the unit with multiple operation purposes like concreting , material handling , explosive handling or as personnel transport .
The UNIVERSA 55 was presented at the Paus annual dealer conference in March 2024 . The first machine will be delivered to its dealer in the US mid-year . https :// www . paus . de / en /

BEUMER secures pipe conveyor contract in Quebec

BEUMER Group has secured a contract to supply a large two-way pipe conveyor system for a strategic development project at the Port of Saguenay in Quebec , Canada . The conveyor will connect the port with customers in the new industrial port zone , boosting economic growth and supporting the region ’ s commitment to a more sustainable maritime supply chain . The pipe conveyor is expected to be fully operational in 2025 .

The Port of Saguenay is located 500 km north of Montreal . The BEUMER Pipe Conveyor is central to the port ’ s new Multi-User Bulk Transport System , which will increase the port ’ s ability to both import and export iron ore , pellets , wood ships , salt , aggregates and other ores . It will attract further investment in the region of Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean . On awarding BEUMER Group the contract , the Port of Saguenay Authority commented that they were particularly impressed with the company ’ s “ engagement , commitment , and flexibility in understanding our requirements , especially regarding the importance to work with the community .”
The pipe conveyor will be roughly 2 km long with a downhill ( export ) capacity of 4,150 t / h and an uphill ( import ) rate of 2,750 t / h . It runs along an existing steep and curvy road , reducing the need for truck transport and any associated carbon , dust and noise emissions . Because the pipe conveyor is fully enclosed , it reduces any environmental impacts and protects bulk materials from the sun , rain , snow , and wind . The scope of the contract includes all mechanical , structural and electrical equipment including prefabricated electrical buildings and the control system .
Markus Schmidt , CEO BEUMER Group North America , says : “ The Saguenay pipe conveyor
project represents a very important milestone , both for this region of Canada and for BEUMER Group ’ s Minerals & Mining business . The expertise inherent in our global team enables us to deliver a conveyor solution on this scale , meeting the client ’ s criteria for improving capacity in bulk handling while reducing environmental impacts .” https :// www . beumergroup . com

Underground trolley truck pilot live at Kristineberg

Boliden , Epiroc and ABB have passed a new technology milestone by successfully deploying the first fully battery-electric truck trolley system on an 800 m long underground mine test track in Sweden , with a 13 % incline . The partners say this means the mining industry is a step closer to realising the all-electric mine of the future , with sustainable , productive operations and improved working conditions .

The statement said : “ The achievement of the collaboration in Boliden ’ s Kristineberg mine in northern Sweden marks a critical moment for the mining industry as it continues to face rising pressures to balance increased outputs of critical minerals and metals with lower carbon emissions and energy usage . Demand for minerals critical to society ’ s clean-energy transformation is predicted to increase between 1.5 to 7 times by 2030 according to the IEA1 , making electrification a priority .”
In tandem with reducing carbon emissions , the
electrification of mining also promises improved health and safety for the industry ’ s workforce . By deploying this system , the collaboration partners aim to prove that the underground working environment can be significantly improved , with less emissions , noise and vibration while reducing the total cost per ton .
“ Over the past three years , we have worked in close collaboration with the ABB and Epiroc teams to bring the electric mine of the future one step closer ,” said Peter Bergman , General s
