The authors concluded : “ The pursuit of green steel production does not lend itself to a onesize-fits-all solution . Based on AFRY ’ s expertise , the optimal solution lies in crafting tailormade solutions that fit with each clients ’ unique parameters , including their specific raw material base , existing operations and availability of electricity , hydrogen and natural gas , as well as the required product portfolio . This way a technoeconomically optimised process chain for each individual client case can be created . Furthermore , it is crucial to ensure these solutions are seamlessly integrated with existing downstream processes and other infrastructure elements .”
Four hammers in one design
In drilling developments , Robit has released its new H-series hammers , which , it says , have been designed with performance and versatility as their guiding principles .
The goal of this product development was to provide customers with a hammer range that can be used in different environments with minimal breakages and maximised utility for each operator ’ s circumstances . The received feedback from Robit ’ s customers led the company to develop a new modular design , which offers increased flexibility and adaptability to varying conditions .
With a few simple changes in the assembly of the hammer , they can be customised for each site ’ s needs , the company says . “ Whether one wants to run them with improved productivity in mind or needs to be able to use a lower capacity compressor , the H-series hammers can be modelled to suit these requirements ,” Robit added .
In practice , the modular design of the hammer allows Robit to offer four hammers in one base design . The assemblies vary between high power and low volume , as well as foot valved and tubeless . With these specifications , they can create the following variations : high power with a foot valve ; high power tubeless , low volume with a foot valve ; and low volume tubeless .
The high-power assembly offers high blow energy and high air volume , which results in a fast penetration rate and is suitable for deephole drilling . The low-volume assembly , meanwhile , provides lower blow energy and lower air consumption , which are ideal traits for soft ground , while keeping the hammer energy efficient .
These hammers were tested at the largest open-pit mine in the world , according to Robit ,

with the goal of including a faster drilling hammer in the customer ’ s selection to improve the potential productivity . Robit provided the client with two different assemblies of the new H- series models with differing internal arrangements to control the airflow – one with low air volume and the other with high air volume . These new hammers were to be tested against the D45 hammer from Robit ’ s older hammer range .
Robit said : “ The tests showed a considerable and consistent improvement in the rate of penetration across the board . The penetration rates went up in all tests , with the smallest increase at 14 % and the biggest improvement at 30 %, compared with the previous model . The highest rate of penetration reached during the tests was 63.18 m / h . These results also correlated with those seen from prior tests , ensuring the validity of the results .”
With the new hammer range , Robit says it wants to bring more options to the market , while still guaranteeing high performance .
The first of the H-series hammers , the H4 , became available in May 2023 , with largerdiameter sizes launched this month and later in the year .
Nordic networks
Nokia has been connecting devices across mine sites for decades , with its latest agreement extending its reach to unmanned aerial vehicles ( UAVs ).
It recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with network measurement technology provider , Rohde & Schwarz , to embed QualiPoc 4.9G / LTE and 5G network measurement capabilities into the Nokia Drone Networks platform .
This first software-embedded solution of its kind will expand the use cases for drones to provide communication service providers ( CSP ), private wireless partners and enterprises with deeper knowledge around their wireless network coverage and performance for more efficient utilisation , according to Nokia .
Nokia and Rohde & Schwarz will jointly work on a prototype that integrates mobile network measurement and troubleshooting QualiPoc capabilities using QualiPoc software from Rohde & Schwarz , embedded directly into the Nokia drone , connected to the MX Industrial Edge ( MXIE ) over the Digital Automated Cloud ( DAC ). This , Nokia says , will enable early trials for
customers such as in the mining industry to collect data and measure the outdoor or underground network experience and quality in real time .
Currently this information can be accessed by using a QualiPoc Android-empowered smartphone device attached to a drone as a payload . With a software-embedded solution , Nokia and Rohde & Schwarz aim at reducing the drone weight for these activities , resulting in lower power consumption and longer flight times , for more efficient and sustainable operations .
By exploring the feasibility to embed QualiPoc capabilities as a software application into Nokia drones and MXIE , Nokia and Rohde & Schwarz will enable enterprises to use their site inspection drones also to collect performance data about their private networks even in beyond-line-of-sight scenarios , the company says . This will facilitate decision-making about future use cases in Industry 4.0 , ports , mines and others such as network planning optimisation of connected assets , safety , or surveillance .
Thomas Eder , Head of Embedded Wireless Solutions at Nokia , said : “ Our work with Rohde & Schwarz demonstrates how , using Nokia Drone Networks , enterprises can leverage the reliability , security and low latency enabled by private wireless and the industrial Edge cloud . By consuming Rohde & Schwarz QualiPoc and SmartMonitor in this way , customers can increase the value of their existing Nokia Drone Network deployments and leverage a high level of automation to gain real-time data for tasks such as network performance assessments .”
