sophisticated AI optimisation technologies to increase production efficiency, many others simply increase cyanide dosage to maintain recoveries, increasing their processing costs.”
It says manufacturer constraints are also placing pressure on expanding the cyanide supply.“ Persistent price pressures keep margins low, leading to fierce competition among Western manufacturers, Chinese state-subsidised producers, and other players that produce cyanide as a by-product.” This intense competition Draslovka told IM has forced producers into a price war, competing in a‘ race to the bottom.’“ Rising input costs, combined with decades of low margins, have resulted in dwindling investment in production capacity expansions. The capital intensity of new projects and more stringent permitting requirements create further barriers to new market entrants and prevent existing
producers from entering new regions, leaving mines vulnerable to single-vendor supply risks.”
In response to the looming potential cyanide shortages and growing geopolitical supply chain disruptions, it says mining operators are using a range of strategies to ensure continuous operations- from diversifying their supplier mix to investigating alternative leaching technologies and deploying AI optimisation platforms to maximise recoveries, reduce operations expenses( OPEX), and improve their carbon footprint to attract investment and improve social license.
Draslovka is one of the largest cyanide producers in the world, and has the largest single-site capacity globally. It argues that by adopting more advanced leaching technologies, mine operators could not only mitigate the challenges of navigating a tightening sodium cyanide market but also improve recovery from complex ores, reduce operational OPEX, and enhance their ESG performance.
In recent years, Draslovka has made significant progress in advancing its patented Glycine Leaching Technology( GLT) – a dual-lixiviant leaching process for precious and base metals that’ s been proven to drastically reduce reagent consumption, processing costs, and environmental impact.
