UNDERGROUND LOAD & HAUL
Nerospec SK has – by its understanding – developed a world first retrofit package that , it says , allows a GHH SLP-14H to carry out a full cycle in autonomous mode without any manned supervision
interoperable integration strategies that come with that .
The machine is scanning the muckpile every time using LiDAR to give depth as well as fragmentation perception . Pohlmann said that while the first project was in a potash-salt mine , the system could also function in the same way in a metallic hard-rock mine . Added to that , a new project is in development for Gold Fields ’ South Deep mine in South Africa – this happens to be loaders autonomously loading trucks running on an autonomous truck loop . Another project is underway in France for a major civil tunnelling operation .
Currently the system is being referred to as an Automation Pack , reflecting the fact it represents a concentrated package to be added to a machine to enable the functions – a robotic driver in some senses . That said , Nerospec has not begun marketing the solution in a big way yet , partly because the interest is already so great . And while it was developed using a 14 t GHH loader , with GHH ’ s full integration into Komatsu expected soon , there is obvious additional potential there .

Tech training
When mining underground , the entire workforce needs to rapidly recognise environmental and machinery risks before they translate into incidents . When the workforce is operating mobile equipment , it is critical
they do so safely and productively while minimising damage . Only with a well-designed training program are personnel prepared with the right knowledge , skills and attitudes to perform their work safely and effectively , Immersive Technologies says .
In partnership with dozens of underground mines around the world , Immersive Technologies has been deploying solutions to solve specific challenges , including : n A large workforce exposed to a wide range of risks ; n Limited equipment and mine data to identify individual operator performance ; and n Training resource constraints coupled with high levels of machine customisation and fleet mixing . Immersive Technologies simulators are designed for identifying and removing workforce variability by capturing hundreds of data points in a repeatable environment . Through a data-driven process , simulators can pinpoint and correct specific behaviours that can lead to safety incidents , machine damage and productivity losses . Training scenarios and curricula are tailored to address specific mine needs and standard operating procedures .
Training opportunities include : n Hazard / pedestrian avoidance ; n Operator productivity ; n Machine safety testing ; n Gear management ; n Brake testing procedures ;
Outside of high-fidelity simulation , Immersive Technologies says it also helps mines identify training solutions
n Tyre preservation ; n Engine management ; n Site safety procedures ; n Situational awareness ; and n Minimising unscheduled maintenance .
Immersive Technologies says it also helps mines identify training solutions outside of high-fidelity simulation . Process familiarisation , hazard identification and machine inspection are often more efficiently taught through digital learning systems ( VR , eLearning , digital touchscreen ) and this is why Immersive Technologies has one of the largest digital learning teams in the world , with developers in North America , South America , Africa , Asia and Australia , it says .
