MINING HOISTS
giant universal coupling used on double drum BMR winders to link the two drums mechanically, without the use of gears to allow the drums to be angled towards the conveyance centres to improve rope fleeting angles. This system offers significant capital cost savings over electrically coupled winders. The cost of a BMR installation is offset by the higher tonnages that can be hoisted using twin ropes per conveyance. In shaft systems, safety is a major focus. The Cage Guardian Safety Brake from FLSmidth uses engineered steel guides instead of conventional safety catches and timber guides, and deploys automatically in the event of a slack rope or rope suspension failure. It is strictly mechanical – no hydraulics, pneumatics or electricity – for fail-safe operation, even on wet or contaminated guides. Actuation and operation is performed by redundant mechanical systems, only requiring a slackrope or rope break event to bring the cage to a safe stop. With average deceleration rates of 0.9 g to 2 g( 9 to 20 m / s / s)( 29.5 to 65.6 ft / s / s), the Cage Guardian Safety Brake has a lower jerk rate and provides smoother deceleration.

for speciality oils and fluids across Europe, Africa and beyond
SIP Speciality Oils & Fluids offers tried and tested oils and fluids for:
ANFO and bulk emulsions Mining solvent extraction diluents Improved environmental( LCA) and H & S benefits projects including Agnico Eagle’ s Odyssey gold mine in Quebec for which FLSmidth supplied the auxiliary hoist and skip / cage with Cage Guardian. This unique and complex hybrid design conveyance weighs 20 t with full personnel load and is guided on four steel guides. Free-fall tests on the conveyance using the patented Cage Guardian successfully passed for an equivalent hoist speed of 8 m / s. The Cage Guardian has been successfully tested for four-guide cage configurations with a test mass exceeding 20,000 kg at 9 m / s.
Currently, FLS is supplying large 7.62 m diameter compensating sheave assemblies and 52 t production skips and ancillaries such as chairing mechanisms for the production shaft at Odyssey.
SIEMAG TECBERG – global hoist coverage
SIEMAG TECBERG group is known worldwide for hoist system technology and is represented on all continents by at least one subsidiary company while also working worldwide with collaboration partners. As well as the head office with an assembly facility in Haiger( north of Frankfurt am Main, Germany), there are

As an example of the scale of projects it can deliver, SIEMAG TECBERG recently successfully completed the muti layer rope coiling shells for Agnico Eagle Mines’ Odyssey gold mine in Quebec, Canada. This facility will be equipped with the largest double-drum Blair winder in the world.
SIEMAG stated:“ With the completion of the multi-layer rope coiling shells, we are one step closer to bringing this major project to life.” Discussing the entire process, SIEMAG adds:“ It always starts with the cutting of the raw sheet steel plate purchased on the basis our detailed technical specification. This plate of specified steel is bent with stipulated tolerances accordingly. Once this has been successfully processed, the component is temporarily stiffened, and the rope groove geometry is machined into the barrel. Once this has been completed, the product is deburred, implementation of risers and fillers is done and finally the finishing touches are applied. The component is then almost finished and undergoes final quality inspection and cleaning to apply the corrosion protection. Once this has been applied, the rope coiling system( two grooved shells per Blair drum, 4 shells in total due winder are coiling 2 + 2 ropes simultaneously on / off) is complete.”
SIEMAG is also a leader in the supply of high performance hoisting systems to the Chinese market – with completed projects including Shanxi Linxian Guangming coal mine( 20 t double skip production system with a floor-mounted 4-rope Koepe winder plus material hoisting and men-riding hoists) and Sishanling iron ore mine( three hoisting systems: a double-skip production system in the production shaft in the form of a 6.75 m 6-rope machine and a cage counterweight system for personnel and machine transport in the form of a 6 m 6-rope machine and a smaller cage counterweight system for emergencies in the form of a 4 m 4-rope machine in the service shaft).
Recently SIEMAG also handed over service winders SS1 & SS2 in China to the Baijiahaizi underground coal mine. Each winder can handle up to 60 t of payload, with a man riding capacity of 300 persons per lift and 310 t of service load. Baijiahaizi is a large-scale mine with 2.03 billion tons of coal reserves and an estimated lifespan of 97 years. The mine is operated by Lianhai Coal Industry Company and has a production capacity of 15 Mt / y.
