FLEET MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
Coach’ s cloud environment, where machine learning models triangulate multiple sources to calculate a reliable estimate of fuel on board and remaining haul cycles. The result is delivered as a native Fleet Control alarm, displayed alongside every other alert a dispatcher monitors during a shift. No secondary dashboard, no separate application, no overhaul of the system the site already runs. Training is minimal and adoption is fast.
“ The integration was straightforward because Wenco’ s architecture is built for exactly this kind of collaboration,” says Reid Given, Director of Product Management at Wenco.“ We are not trying to be everything to every mine. We are trying to be the best possible platform for integrating the technologies that deliver value. When a partner like Cascadia brings higher-quality fuel data to the table, our job is to make sure that data reaches dispatchers in a way that is actionable and seamless.”
Both Wenco’ s FMS and Cascadia’ s solutions are OEM-agnostic, designed to work across mixed equipment fleets regardless of manufacturer. In a market where fleet management is increasingly bundled into OEM-aligned technology stacks, two vendor-neutral platforms connecting through an open API is a
distinctly different model.
Stephen Edwards, Sales and Marketing Director at Cascadia Scientific, says the partnership reflects a broader trend toward interoperability in mining technology.“ Working with Wenco has been a genuinely collaborative experience. The more technology providers can break down silos and keep the customer’ s outcomes front and centre, the greater the impact.”
The current Refuel Coach integration represents the first phase of a broader roadmap. Wenco and Cascadia are working toward a direct API connection between Cascadia’ s SmartRView cloud platform and Wencomine, which would allow the FMS to receive high-accuracy fuel data natively, further tightening the feedback loop between fuel intelligence and dispatch assignments. Further out, the companies are exploring fuel intensity heat maps across haul road networks, using the granularity of Cascadia’ s data to identify segments where consumption spikes, potentially flagging poor road conditions or excessive grade. That kind of insight could inform decisions beyond dispatch, such as deploying ancillary equipment for road maintenance or adjusting haul routes to reduce unnecessary fuel burn and the associated emissions.
Sandvik on the next evolution of mining data platforms
As mining operations continue to advance their digital capabilities, the industry is entering a new phase of transformation. Fleet management systems, telemetry, and connected equipment have enabled operations to see more than ever before with data collection, connectivity, and visibility.
Sandvik told IM:“ As operations become more complex, the real question today is not whether data exists, but whether it can be used effectively to improve operations. The ability to act on data quickly, consistently, and at the point of operation, has emerged as the next critical step. The industry is now shifting from systems that observe operations to platforms that actively support and influence them. This transition marks a new phase in mining digitalisation, where the role of data platforms is expanding from reporting to operational control.”
Traditionally, digital systems in mining have been designed as layers of visibility. Data is collected from machines and systems, aggregated into dashboards, and reviewed by engineers, supervisors, or management teams. While this approach provides valuable insight, it often remains retrospective. Decisions are made after
