HIGH PROFILE
clients based upon their needs if our standardised offerings are not an exact fit.
Q What would you say are your customer ' s major concerns today in selecting equipment- is it a combination of water and energy related sustainability while maintaining top performance? A Customers are looking for the absolute lowest TCO, especially when we look at things like tailings dewatering. They need the equipment to operate reliably
, use as little power as possible and require the lowest amount of operator interaction as possible. The designs of our equipment have been based upon many years spent in the field observing equipment in operation and completing cost / benefit analysis on things like pumping speed or filter cycle time vs filter volume and area. There is a balance. Larger filters require larger compressors to meet the instantaneous cake blow demands. The pumps required to fill them are heavy on capital expenditure and power consumption. The machines themselves are often higher priced than two smaller machines. Smaller filters require a larger number of machines installed which requires a larger building footprint, and more infrastructure, and significantly more maintenance and OPEX. We have spent a lot of time analysing data and costs & have sized our filters to what we believe are the most economical filters to operate.
Q Aftermarket is a crucial part of equipment
support post delivery- how do you support clients with spares and consumables plus do you supply any warranties / performance related guarantees? A Firstly, with all of us coming from companies li ike FLS, Metso, Andritz and other Tier 1 companies, we understand what is not only expected, but required in relation to performance guarantees and warranties. GKD offers the exact level of coverage that you would expect from any other Tier 1 company when purchasing capital equipment. We have set up spare parts warehouses strategically around the globe, we have field services teams built and ready to travel, and we have a team of estimators and project managers assigned to looking after the spares business. We currently manufacture 80 % of our spares inhouse but have also created relationships with fabricators located within close proximity to client sites or our warehouses for items that are frequently required and do not require our inhouse expertise.
Q Are there any specific successful projects you have delivered that you can highlight? Can you
give a brief outline of the solution?
A GKD has a plethora of success stories in Africa, supplying 14 thickeners to Bateman for the KOV copper project in DRC, plus pre-leach & tailings thickeners to a gold mine in Ethiopia which were
delivered in 14 weeks from order. F or Barrick Gold’ s Tongon in Côte d ' lvoire we supplied a thickener and two linear screens, including site installation.
We recently replaced completee stainless steel frames and vacuum systems on two 48 m 2 vacuum belt filters for a soda ash plant in Africa. The project was completed on site without removing any of the major components like the carrier belt, head and tail pulleys and other rollers; plus on budget and on time. We have had much success with our retrofits and aftermarket team with installation of our bolt in vacuum box retrofit kit. We build these units using wider throats to allow for better filtration performance across wider belts and fit them with an automatic raising and lowering system for ease of maintenance. We build them to directly bolt into all OEM filters. In the past five years, we have also supplied linear
screens to every major gold mining company in South Africa. We are already seeing similar success here in the Americas with one client for whom we are replacing a thickener drive and rake mechanism for a thickener manufactured by
another major OEM, and with our linear screen that we are providing to a client in Canada. The screen uses our patented Trackmatic stainless steel belt and will be equipped with an automatic tensioning and data logging system that constantly measures the force and travel of the tensioner, making adjustmentss as necessary. While the machine is still being fabricated, the
client has commended our team on fast response times throughout engineering, fairness of pricing and short delivery time. IM
