Canary unveils latest MLSuite software platform
Canary Systems , a leading innovator in web-based data visualisation and geotechnical monitoring solutions , has released what it says is its latest groundbreaking software platform , MLSuite ® , including a host of updated features and enhancements that will redefine how mining companies harness the power of risk management in data collection , integration and analysis .

MLWeb , the web-based visualisation component of MLSuite , offers a powerful GIS and 3D engine , providing users with spatial data capabilities . A new improved user interface allows users to explore data like never before , the company says , providing enhanced geographical insights .
In addition , the charting engine has been completely reimagined , offering more interactive charting options and allowing users to view data in integrated , compelling and informative ways , Canary says .
MLWeb now features a powerful global search function that helps users quickly locate and access the data they need . Whether it ' s a custom report , a quick chart , or any other piece of information , this functionality will find it in a matter of seconds , saving valuable time and offering a more efficient workflow , Canary says .
Data storage has been redesigned for enhanced efficiency and security , confirming that valuable project data is in safe hands . Furthermore , substantial performance upgrades have been made to ensure MLWeb operates seamlessly even with large datasets , supporting faster data analysis .
The functionality for viewing and creating alarms has also been updated . When items in alarm or folders containing such items are displayed , they are identifiable through flashing , colour-coded alerts . These items are labeled as " In Alarm ", and the number of active alarms is indicated . The colour of the alert is customisable based on configuration

With deep linking and browser tabs support , users can navigate between different views and data sets , simplifying the data analysis and automated monitoring process . By generating unique URLs for specific pages or content within the platform , deep linking enables users to bookmark and define custom defined user presets , analyses and 2D or 3D scene visualisations , the company added .
“ Browser tab support takes the convenience of data exploration to the next level by allowing users to organise their workflow across multiple tabs within their web browser ,” the company says . “ Whether conducting comparative analyses , or cross-referencing datasets , browser tab support provides the flexibility needed to manage diverse tasks and workflows . With the ability to switch effortlessly between tabs , mining personnel can maintain variability without losing context or disrupting their workflow , thereby maximising productivity .”

Shovel sticks have similar lubricant demands to open gears . In cases of over-lubrication , the plating effect is reduced on the metal running surfaces . This results in the stick surface being more susceptible to extreme weather conditions .
“ When properly lubricated , the stick should have minimal lubricant build-up towards the bucket and on non-running surfaces , which enables better resistance to adverse weather conditions ,” the company says .
House rollers and rails also have similar lubricant application practices . A stubborn , black velvety film will be created when the correct amount of lubricant is used . In colder conditions , it is not necessary to apply more lubricant or pour oil onto the rollers as the lubricant is oilbased and will not dry out or freeze . This also results in making the equipment quieter .
Petro-Canada concludes : “ While overlubrication is a common issue , it is easily avoidable . The key is to keep all maintenance personnel and operators trained in proper lubrication techniques , that the lubrication system is operating efficiently and that the application doesn ’ t become a secondary consideration to choosing the right lubricant .
“ Selecting the correct lubricant can result in extended equipment uptime , reduced maintenance costs and security of operational goals .”
Cascadia Terrain use pays off at Rainy River
Still on the fluid front , New Gold has been leveraging Cascadia Scientific ’ s Terrain solution at its Rainy River operation in Ontario , Canada , as part of its plan to optimise operations at the open-pit mine .
In a recently released ESG report , New Gold highlighted that the Heat Mapping module of Terrain , designed to avoid excessive fuel burn , improve operator safety , and reduce equipment maintenance costs and greenhouse gas
emissions , has proven itself when used on 13 of its haul trucks .
“ In August 2022 , Rainy River installed the Cascadia heat mapping system in 13 of its haul trucks ,” the company said . “ This technology , which identifies ‘ hot spots ’ along the haul route , allows Rainy River to identify the areas of inefficiency and rectify them .”
Between August and December , the program supported average fuel savings of 15 %, equivalent to just over 2.7 Mt of CO 2e , New Gold said .
Terrain is made up of tools to visualise haul roads to target interventions that reduce fuel use , GHG emissions and accelerated equipment wear . Cascadia Scientific combines high-accuracy fuel consumption data with measurements of road grade , vehicle speed , position , motion and altitude to construct visual representations of haul road networks . This helps the company continuously support clients in identifying and correcting hot spots to maximise efficient and productive operation , Cascadia said .
