impeller and is designed specifically for the oil sands . And there is potential for an even bigger MDX or TBC pump in the future , according to the company .
“ We see this with our current pumps in service being pushed to do more ,” the company told IM , referencing a recent expansion of its foundry in Grovetown , Georgia , which is capable of pouring output up to 66,000 lb ( 30,000 kg ).
“ You may not know it , but our DWD pump used in dredging is even larger than the MDX or the TBC , so GIW already has the industrial manufacturing technology to produce these large-scale castings .”
Like others in the field , KSB has also developed a platform to monitor wear parts on its pumps .

The company has several test sites operational with SLYsight in the oil sands and one pending in the hard-rock mining space , it said .
Smaller footprint pumps
DXB Pump & Power , like KSB , is expanding , with the UK-based manufacturer of quarry and mining pumps now in a new 1,200 sq . m factory in Stowmarket , Suffolk .
The move will allow for DXB Pumps ’ continued expansion following large orders from the international quarry and mining markets , it said .
Having focused on EU Stage V compliant engine-driven pumps since 2020 , the company has become the market leader for these type of pumps throughout Europe and , specifically , in the mine dewatering markets where rising fuel costs have led to an increased focus on more fuel-efficient pumps like those designed by DXB Pump , it said .
In addition to engine-driven portable pumps , DXB Pump has also developed a range of cost-effective electric pumpsets in the same canopies . Some of these have the same control systems as the engine-driven equipment so operators can decide whether to go engine-driven or electric
while using the same control systems and telemetry monitoring systems that DXB Pump designs and offers .
