NARROW-VEIN & LOW-PROFILE MINING with a DPF as standard , while the Stage IIIA can be equipped with one if ultra-low-sulphur fuel is available at the operating site .
As with the LH208L , both engines can use paraffinic diesel fuel that meets the requirements of EN 15940 , contributing to lower environmental impacts as well as reduced consumption of fossil fuels . The Stage V engine option also features selective catalytic reduction exhaust gas technology to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions .
The recently updated line of PFL LHDs – which offer payloads from 1.5-6 t in compact dimensions – look likely to be the next in Paus ’ line-up to ‘ go electric ’
Fit-for-purpose
Hermann Paus Maschinenfabrik GmbH is used to tailoring equipment to mining company requirements , hence the reason it continues to see the narrow-vein mining equipment sector as a profitable and productive niche .
The Germany-based company ’ s most recent launch in this part of the market was the PMKM 8030 dump truck , which , according to Oliver Wilke , Area Sales Manager for Latin America , USA , Canada , Spain , Portugal and Turkey , has been well received .
“ We started off with a couple of trials with the PMKM 8030 with customers in the eastern part of the world last year ,” he told IM . “ The first prototype has been running for more than 5,000 hours now and the feedback from customers has been great ; the prototype is still running around , and all is in order .”
The 16-t payload underground dump truck is one of most compact and powerful machines in its class , according to the company , coming with EU Stage V / US Tier 4 Final engine options from Cummins and Caterpillar with up to 190 kW of power .
The PMKM 8030 has an 8 cu . m dump box , a mining safety package including ROPS / FOPS protection and SAHR brakes , plus a new spacious , comfortable cab with 90 ° rotating driver ’ s seat . It also has options for a ‘ HD ’ dump body , ‘ LD ’ dump body , and tailgate for dump body .
Wilke said , since launch , the company has received several orders for new units , with other machines already in the field and more set to arrive at underground operations in the next few years .
This machine will be displayed at the upcoming Bauma 2022 event in Munich , Germany , in October , being used as a showcase vehicle for the company ’ s latest electronic and digital developments .
This includes state-of-the-art safety equipment like a button for brake test , bird ’ s eye view camera , tyre pressure monitoring system , gas monitoring system and others .
Franz-Josef Paus , Chairman of Paus , explained : “ Most of our machines are built for robustness so we ’ re not fans of using too many electronics in the machines , but in certain markets and applications they may need these elements .
“ We don ’ t expect the majority of our customers to take up these options , but we want to show that the capability is there .”
