Its new purpose-designed South Africa premises in Kempton Park , near Johannesburg , epitomises this with a shared solar photovoltaic system and use of LED light bulbs contributing to an expected 48 % saving on energy requirements .
At this location , the company has consolidated its workshops and office space into a purposedesigned 62,000 sq . m headquarters called Khomanani – which , in Tsonga , means “ hold each other together as a unit ”, Simon Andrews , Managing Director of Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions South Africa , told IM .
He explained : “ There are two workshops for refurbishing and rebuilding local equipment for the southern African region , while local assembly is conducted in the third workshop . The remanufacturing facility allows the complete

and adjacent communities ,” Baller said . “ Our R & D considers ongoing efforts to control dust and mitigate noise , using flow control as a central principle of our design philosophy . This helps customers meet minimum compliance standards while improving worker health and access to working areas where chutes are located .”
The local content of Weba ’ s chutes amounts to almost 100 %, which assists the company in aligning with the Mining Charter in South Africa . This local design and manufacturing base also aids its customers ’ mine maintenance needs , with the full range of spare components being within reach .
“ We also support local economies through employment where we have a regional office , and through engaging and training local contractors to maintain aspects of our chute solutions ,” Baller said .
“ Other countries also pursue local procurement policies , so , where required , we commission manufacturers in those countries to build according to our engineering designs . We manage this process in conjunction with our distributors and partners in those countries .”
By leveraging the likes of 3D scanning , the latest CAD and discrete element modelling software , and laser cutting equipment – plus a 160 kW solar plant at its Germiston facility – Weba is setting itself up for the next generation of mining company procurement requirements , which will include high performance products from sustainability-focused OEMs .
