EXPLOSIVES AND BLASTING
Dyno Nobel ’ s Ranger system , having a potential application in small-scale mines , comes with a flexible tagging option that allows the user to assign both hole location and delay time at the hole or assign delay times at any time the user prefers
remote firing through IntelliShot offers additional safety benefits such as an advanced security system , the possibility to easily initiate the blast at larger and safer distances , allowance for the blaster to fire from locations that give greater visual security of the blast area during firing , and eliminating potential slap , snap and shoot that can come with the use of shock tube .
The introduction of remote firing at KPC was carried out in stages in the CMD area . Focused key performance indicator ( KPI ) targets agreed by the project team were carefully monitored daily to ensure the best possible outcome .
The project was conducted in the three CMD contractor pit areas at Sangatta and Bengalon under the management of the KPC drill and blast department . AECI Indonesia successfully delivered multiple events of remote firing blasting in all areas . The team also complied with all safety and efficiency KPIs , AECI says .
The average usage of harness wire per remote firing event was around 100 m , compared with 650 m per blast of lead-in-line used in conventional blast initiation . This has reduced the cost of blast initiation in KPC CMD by over 50 %, AECI claims .
Yuli Prihartono , KPC Drill & Blast Manager , says : “ Remote firing has successfully delivered quantifiable cost benefits for KPC . We expect AECI Mining Explosives to expand this initiative by introducing remote firing to all blast locations at CMD KPC .”
A recent addition to IntelliShot is the high
accuracy Differential Global Positioning System ( DGPS ), which , AECI says , is bringing autonomy to the blasthole tagging process .
The DGPS can achieve location accuracy within less than a metre , with the design mitigating signal degradation for a high level of precision , according to the company .
This brings increased safety through the system ’ s ability to protect against human error , while providing additional flexibility as the tagging process does not need to follow a specific tagging path .
“ The DGPS will assist in bringing large-scale mining into the digital era and supports new blasting techniques and mining methods to increase productivity and reduce blasting costs ,” the company said . “ Mining customers will reap quantifiable benefits on their surface operations , including better ore recovery , high levels of safety and improved operational flexibility , all of which are necessary parameters in their quest to operate sustainably .”
DIFFERENTIAL detonating
Dyno Nobel , an Incitec
Pivot Ltd business , has achieved a number of wireless detonator milestones , including blasts using its CyberDet I ® solution .
Dyno Nobel Asia Pacific President , Greg Hayne , said : “ The CyberDet I technology has been a great success and it ’ s been really pleasing to hear customer feedback that CyberDet I delivers improved safety and efficiency .”
CyberDet I is designed to allow operators to work in a safer environment during the blast loading process . The technology also facilitates a shorter blast cycle , providing the potential to increase the number of tonnes mined .
“ CyberDet I is Dyno Nobel ’ s through-the-earth wireless detonator offering , developed on the back of customers telling us it ’ s technology they need ,” Hayne said .
Incitec Pivot Ltd Chief Technology Officer , Robert Rounsley , said CyberDet I highlighted the group ’ s commitment to advanced technology development . “ One of the key advantages of our wireless offering is its portable design ,” he said . “ The flexible nature of our communications antenna provides significant operational advantages for our users .”
The next step for CyberDet I will be further trials in Australia , with several customers already interested in the wireless technology , according to the company .
CyberDet II ® is also in the works at Dyno Nobel , as readers of last year ’ s explosives and
