Wajax Corporation and Hitachi Construction Machinery Loaders America Inc , effective March
1 , 2022 , expanded their Canadian direct distribution relationship to include construction excavators , mining equipment and related aftermarket parts . Since 2001 , these products have been supplied to Wajax via the John Deere third – party joint venture partner to Hitachi Construction Machinery ( HCM ). The expansion of the direct relationship between Wajax and Hitachi is expected to strengthen the competitive positioning of both companies in the Canadian construction and mining markets . This change is expected to provide Wajax with enhanced access to product development , increased market responsiveness and improved reliability of equipment supply . It is also expected to increase Wajax and Hitachi market share by providing customers with better access to products which lead the market in terms of value , performance and reliability .
On behalf of Hitachi , Simon Wilson , Vice President of Sales , stated last year : “ Wajax is one of Hitachi ’ s largest and most successful independent distributors globally and has been a valued partner for over two decades . The Canadian market is key to Hitachi ’ s strategy , and we look forward to the benefits of an expanded direct relationship with Wajax as our national construction and mining partner . We believe this change will increase our market share by providing customers with products that lead the market in terms of value , performance and reliability .”
In its full year 2021 results call , new Wajax President and CEO Ignacy Domagalski added : “ We have been receiving excellent support from Hitachi and are very confident in the transition . We ' re just really excited to have a partner that wants us to win and wants us to be successful . And so Hitachi is a wonderful partner . We expect to receive inventory consistent with our 2022 joint targets , and all of the Deere consignment inventory that we ' ve acquired , nearly all of that ' s been sold , and committed . So , we ' re on track with Hitachi to receive all the equipment that ' s been promised .”

2021 results in which it gave an update on its trolley assist mining truck project , which will see a fleet of Komatsu 830-5 units converted to trolley operation , with each truck displacing the use of 400 litres of diesel per hour , which equates to about a tonne of CO2 emissions . The results statement said that the trolley assist project is advancing with the installation of the 25 kV double circuit cable along the 1 km haul road and delivery of the E-house to site . The company is targeting commissioning of the first four trolley assist haul trucks by the end of Q1 2022 .
