flotation technology . Thanks to intensive R & D efforts , we have successfully developed the new Concorde Cell™ flotation technology for superior performance in fine and ultrafine particle recovery . This is in response to the global industry trend towards efficient use of the Earth ’ s resources with more environmentally efficient technologies for more finely disseminated and complex orebodies ,” says Paul Sohlberg , Vice President , Separation business line at Metso Outotec . The Concorde Cell™ technology is a part of Metso Outotec ’ s Planet Positive portfolio .

Separators to Newcrest Mining for utilisation in Stage 2 of its Cadia Valley Operations ( Cadia ) expansion project in New South Wales , Australia . This announcement follows the successful delivery , commissioning and ramp up of four Eriez CrossFlow Separators and two HydroFloats as part of the Cadia Coarse Particle Flotation demonstration plant in 2018 . Eriez Flotation Global Managing Director Eric Wasmund says : “ When Stage 2 of the Cadia Expansion Project is complete , 100 % of the Concentrator 1 tailings will be re-treated , significantly improving overall plant recovery for a coarser primary grind .”
Newcrest Mining is the first mining company to commercialise HydroFloat coarse particle flotation in sulphides and the first in a tail scavenging application . Wasmund says , “ Eriez has been very fortunate to partner with Newcrest on coarse particle flotation . As partners we have learned many lessons together .” Eriez-Australia Managing Director James Cooke notes : “ During the commissioning of the demonstration plant , Eriez and Newcrest Mining worked closely together to perfect the technology . The decision was subsequently made to expand the application .”
Wasmund told IM : “ Eriez has been working for many years on commercialising the HydroFloat for coarse particle flotation . We are seeing significant commercial success with this product right now , with two major projects delivered this year - Newcrest ’ s Cadia T1 / T2 , and Anglo American ’ s Quellaveco - and a number of additional ones in the demonstration and planning stages . Our customers are telling us that these units are being selected in order to reduce the production of fine tailings , increase tailing storage safety , reduce water consumption and reduce energy requirements . This technology is a major step in increasing mining sustainability and we are proud to be part of it .”

Jord offers coarse and fine particle flotation in one device
Jord International General Manager of Resources Kevin Barber says the Australia-based company has secured exclusive rights to deliver a new flotation technology developed by Laureate Professor Graeme Jameson , called NovaCell™ . " The NovaCell™ provides efficient coarse and fine particle flotation recovery in one device . with no need for an upfront fines removal plant , it simplifies the flowsheet and reduces energy consumption in the milling circuit by up to 40 %.”
The NovaCell™ has a novel configuration , which produces optimal hydrodynamic conditions for both fine and coarse particle flotation recovery . Feed material entering the NovaCell™ , is distributed across downcomers where particles and tiny bubbles collide in the high-shear zone ideal for fine and ultrafine particle recovery . Material exiting the downcomers enters the fluidised bed , where partially loaded bubbles surround particles in a low-shear environment ideal for coarse particle recovery . Both fine and coarse valuable minerals rise in the NovaCell™ and are collected as two separate streams . A high-grade froth flotation concentrate is collected at top of the cell , whilst coarser valuable particles that may detach are collected in an inverted cone as a second coarse flotation product . The coarse valuables are then separated by a device , such as a screen or cyclone for further processing . “ It allows mine operators to reject a significant portion of feed early on , while maintaining good recoveries . As a result , you can reduce energy consumption , target higher mill throughputs , and install smaller downstream equipment .”
Jord International Flotation Manager Sherwin Morgan says the technology has been tested on a range of complex ore types . " The NovaCell™ can be applied to precious metals , base metals , coal and industrial minerals . For example , testwork on copper-gold porphyry deposits indicate an overall copper recovery of 91 %, at feed grind size of 80 % passing ~ 480 microns . In addition to greatly improving recoveries , it produces a coarse tail for modern tailings management practices , such as belt filtration and
