Smarts on show in Peru Xylem devised a similar smart dewatering solution for operators of a large open-pit copper mine in Peru during an upcoming rainy season . This saw the team install Godwin surfacemounted diesel-driven pumps operated by a remote M & C system .
Connected to the mine ’ s SCADA system , the M & C solution was able to remotely start and stop the pumps , monitor capacity and fuel levels , and communicate operating parameters to mine staff . Mine operators were then able to monitor and control pump flow and operation in a matter of seconds , knowing when the pump is approaching maximum capacity in advance of anticipated heavy rain events .
“ Previously , reconfiguring pumps required retrieving the power cable and disconnecting hoses ,” Parmar said . “ The new proposed solution – with its remote monitoring capability – increased safety and efficiency , and reduced labour costs associated with switching pumps or running electrical power down into the mine .”

Designed around the Sweden-manufactured Scania DC16-385A 566 kW EU Stage V engine – which generates 500 kW of continuous power at 1,800 rpm ( 188.5 m / sec ) – DXB Pump says it has designed the most powerful dewatering pumpsets available in Europe . These pumpsets are capable of flows of over 1,200 cu . m / h and pressures up to 18 bar , or heads of 180 m .
The design allows for multiple Cornell pumps to be fitted into the pumpset , allowing for applications such as dewatering , slurry pumping and flood control to be carried out with a single design . The DXB “ hotbox ” design allows the pumpsets to operate in temperatures exceeding 40 ° C . This design also places all exhaust aftertreatment technology in a separate chamber away from the pumpset cooling pack .
DXB Pump Managing Director , Simon Ruffles , said : “ Our DXB7 canopy design , which houses the largest Scania engine , enables us to package a V8 500 kW unit in a compact and quiet canopy following the design program we developed for our smaller pumpsets using Deutz 180 kW and 260 kW engines that operate at ambient temperatures of over 40 ° C without issues . This is critical in more central and southern European locations .”
