us to quote with our dewatering technology under the usual method , then we will quote . But if there is a client that is interested in executing something under the DBO / BOT structure , then we can explore the possibility of doing this with SUEZ . The same applies if SUEZ gets interest from their side . While we are just at the beginning of our cooperation , we are already working on a few projects . And as it is a global agreement , we , together with SUEZ have also been presenting the joint concept to different SUEZ teams and entities around the world .
Q Moving to the filter press market , are you seeing more demand for larger capacity models to handle larger daily tonnage requirements from greenfield and brownfield projects that want to use dry stacking ? A In the past there was some industry bias against the filter press with a perception the technology was too expensive and too complicated . Of course , this is changing as the industry approach to tailings management is changing . And it isn ’ t just about larger filter presses , though of course interest in larger models is increasing as you state . Today ’ s filter presses from Diemme have many features and advancements with associated benefits – particularly in relation to automation and analytics as well as other features that help to avoid unnecessary maintenance and stoppages .
Filter press technology in relation to introducing dry stacking is just as relevant to existing operations as well as to new ones though in some cases with brownfield projects there may be space constraints to be overcome . When you commit to dry stacking – you have the immediate advantage of recovering more water , a lower footprint for the tailings disposal area , and of course enhanced safety versus a wet dam solution . Dry stacking is also a more sustainable method in terms of mine closure . All these factors mean miners are looking again at filter presses from the beginning of project planning . And of course the recent high profile wet TSF breaches and the resulting scrutiny on tailings has led miners to take a more serious look at dry tailings technologies . The increase in larger filter presses is partly driven by very low grade , high tonnage projects , many of which were never developed for this reason .
Q You are still in the process of assembling & testing the world ’ s largest filter press – the GHT5000F – for completion and delivery this year . Can you outline its potential and give any indication of progress to date ? A Up until now , the GHT-F was available in two filter plate sizes , 1,500 x 1,500 mm and 2,500 x 2,500 mm . But with the current and forecasted demand for even-larger throughputs of future tailings applications , Diemme ® Filtration is now
releasing its GHT5000F ( nominal plate size 5,000 x 5,000 mm ). This huge , next-generation filter press will have approximately 3,000 m 2 of filtration area making it the largest in the world . The first unit will be delivered by end 2021 to an operator in Peru for copper tailings dewatering . Depending on the nature of the tailings to be dewatered , one GHT5000F can exceed capacities of 10,000 t / d of solids throughput so an operation running three or more of them would be larger than any filtration plant operating today in throughput terms . It will also have upgraded control systems using advanced machine intelligence and control , supported by numerous sensors , cameras and other equipment . We will be holding a virtual technical presentation later this year , which will include operators , consultants and customers , talking about experiences with Diemme technology and their cooperation with us . It will include our GHT5000F customer . In terms of the machine , we are already sandblasting , painting and assembling the frames and many of the major components and will soon fit the plates . It is worth noting that the first unit will run in a pilot as part of their project – the final tailings throughput demand of 80,000 t / d plus will require up to ten machines of this size . Of course the project will also need a range of other equipment types from others including conveyors ,
thickeners , pumps and compressors .
