FILTRATION
Diemme Filtration ' s huge GHT5000F is now being manufactured after two years of basic engineering , followed by a phase of detailed engineering . It has up to around 3,000 m 2 of filtration area per unit and will be able to dewater up to 10,000 t of dry solids per day ( ds / d ) of copper tailings or around 13,000 t ds / d of iron ore tailings . It will allow customers to dewater huge flows of tailings ( up to approximately 200,000 t ds / d ) with a reasonable number of trains , and recover 90 % of their process water straight from their tailings based human machine interface and data acquisition and trending will allow full optimisation of the system .
ANDRITZ and a more intelligent filter press
ANDRITZ built up its filter press business through acquiring Rittershaus & Blecher and Netzsch Filtration to create a strong product offering but has now taken things to the next level by combining findings gathered from Industrial Internet of Things ( IIoT ) with automation solutions for the filter press , creating new mechanisms and features that promise an increase in product quality and a decrease in operating costs as a result of process optimisation . This has been its main focus rather than significantly upscaling the size of its available filter presses . So the company has opted as Bill Perron , Industrial Sales Manager at ANDRITZ Separation described it “ to make a better animal rather than a bigger one .” ANDRITZ has created it says a logical link between material feed , filtration pressure , and residual moisture target value . Filtration is stopped automatically
when target values are reached . This system guarantees that the filtration process always runs under optimum conditions .
Perron told IM that its intelligent filter press features include solutions to increase efficiency , reduce downtime , and also enhance safety and monitoring functions . “ The key distinguishing functions of intelligent filter presses are monitoring of dry substance , intelligent washing cycles , monitoring of oil and filtrate quality , and intelligent pressure control . Two of these solutions use a Smart Sensor inside the filter press that monitors the press and constantly compares the values reported with the nominal values so that the filter press can be stopped automatically if there are deviations from the norm . This provides an opportunity to increase efficiency , for example by suggesting an automatic washing cycle to keep the quality of the end product at a constant , high level . And it also improves safety by stopping the filter press in case of a pressure loss . This feature increases operating safety enormously . In addition , the oil levels and oil quality are measured constantly , ensuring continuing smooth operation and reducing OPEX costs by avoiding unnecessary oil changes .”
Another central function of the intelligent filter press that increases efficiency is the monitoring of dry substance with Smart Sensors inside the filter press during the process . This enables the operator to stop filtration at the right time and reduce fluctuations in the cake moisture content . The ANDRITZ intelligent filter press is often combined with intelligent filter elements , such as the LENSER intelligent filter plate and the Metris SmartFILTERCLOTH , to increase its usability . The SmartFILTERCLOTH is a filter cloth tagged with an
RFID chip to help monitor use and suggest replacing a filter cloth at the right time , thus ensuring ideal filter cloth service .
Metris addIQ is a new innovative control system that combines all ANDRITZ ’ s extensive operation , troubleshooting , and start-up experience in filter presses into one tailored automation solution . “ The Metris addIQ control system is a unique automation product . Its nucleus is a modular , PLCbased control system that supports you in making best use of your filter press . In combination with add-ons and upgrades , the Metris addIQ control system maximises your machine performance regardless of whether you are using ANDRITZ filter presses or other makes .”
Among all Metris addIQ control system options available for ANDRITZ filter presses , Metris addIQ Monitoring can monitor the health status of a machine 24 / 7 from anywhere in the world . Metris addIQ Monitoring also incorporates Metris addIQ Connect . It links the filter press to a secure ANDRITZ environment . Metris addIQ Connect enables remote support for fast interaction between the machine and an ANDRITZ separation specialist . The only thing the customer needs is the Metris addIQ Connect app , the VPN gateway provided by ANDRITZ and an internet connection to access the secure Metris data cloud .
