Newtrax Technology estimates that underground
mines lose 30-90 minutes of additional hauling
time per shift globally as a result of a “lack of
visibility” and an inability to “make real-time
shift plan adjustments”.
The Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology
subsidiary, which recently launched a new
proximity detection solution alongside a vendor-
agnostic IoT hub, says its Newtrax LHD
Productivity Solution can improve the
productivity of these underground loaders.
As the company said, a lack of visibility

plan results in an

same time, shift
planners are often
unable to track
material movement
from a production
area to specific
dumping locations.

Using Newtrax
high-resolution
tracking, the
solution allows
material movement monitoring from loading to
unloading locations, such as truck beds, ore
passes, or remuck stations. This provides the
capability for real-time shift plan adjustments,
keeping LHD productivity on target, the company
says.
The solution uses a combination of angular
and pressure sensors to monitor payload weight
inside the LHD bucket, helping the operator
maximise each load. Bucket payload weight is
also visible in real time using the in-cab payload
display.
“Through the collection, monitoring, and
analysis of data, operations management can
achieve the transparency they need to take
proactive action to maximise LHD loading and
unloading cycles,” it said.
