PRECONCENTRATION
“ We look forward to working with Gekko Systems on this project to recover native copper from our grinding circuit” said Jennifer Katchen, Projects Metallurgist, New Afton mine.
Located near Kamloops, British Columbia in Canada, the New Afton mine site includes underground workings, historic support facilities, a concentrator and tailings facility. The underground operation is expected to produce, on average, 85,000 oz / y of gold and 75 Mlb / y of copper over its 12-year mine life.
“ Gekko is experiencing a high level of interest and demand in pre-concentration flowsheets which support footprint and energy reduction in process plants. New Gold has recognised the IPJ capacity to recover native copper in the New Afton flowsheet. We are excited to support this installation.” said Gekko System’ s Greg Rasmussen, VP North America, in early March this year.
Following on from the sponsorship of the AMIRA P420 project in 2001, Gekko has maintained an ongoing relationship with Curtin University’ s Gold Group.
Late in 2017 Gekko’ s Metallurgical laboratory carried out three-stage Continuous Gravity test work( CGR) for Curtin University on two ores; Cadia ore from New South Wales and Tropicana ore from Western Australia.
The 3 Stage CGR test determines the gold recovery from an ore by gravity concentration and
The SCMG3, Salter Cyclones Ltd’ s large scale Multi- Gravity Separator was supplied to a client with high tailing volumes who wanted to improve recovery of fine grained chromite. It was important that the SCMG3 could provide the required recovery and upgrading with long-term durability and low life cycle costs. The equipment is being used as a pilot unit during the initial stage of the project
simulates the performance of the Gekko IPJ. The results from the three-stage CGR test can be used to select the size of the IPJ’ s and overall design of the gravity circuit to ensure optimal gold recovery. In addition, these tests will also contribute to the AMIRA P420 modelling of gravity recovery from different ore sources.
December 2017 saw the successful commissioning of the turnkey gravity circuit installation( gravity box) at the EMR Golden Grove mine in Australia. The circuit was designed, installed and successfully commissioned by the Gekko technical services team in close collaboration with EMR Golden Grove teams through late November and early
December 2017 and in the process met a critical mine schedule which had high-grade gold ore hitting the plant immediately post commissioning.
The gravity circuit comprises Gekko Systems unique dual Mag-Screen technology and an SB2500 concentrator. Mag-Screen in this instance was key to the success of the process flow sheet given the requirement to maximise gravity concentrate mass yield, remove iron magnetics from the final Zn concentrate product as well as aid the 70m long pumping duty to have gravity gold concentrate reporting to the Zn
