Paul Moore got the insight on Hitachi hydraulic
excavators from Hitachi Construction Machinery
Q On the corporate site the statement is made: “Hitachi is the world’s
market leader in large hydraulic excavators.” Can you be more specific on
the data behind this? Plus where are you strongest regionally?
A Hitachi has the highest market share based on historic unit sales for
190+ tonne class hydraulic excavators. Hitachi’s strongest market share for
hydraulic excavators are in the Asia, Australasia and North America regions
Q Are you seeing more demand in particular commodities and machine
types?
A Hitachi excavators are sold into predominantly coal applications across
the range of mining excavators, with recent demand spread across the 190 t
– 800 t range. Highest demand in recent years for mining has been the 360 t
– 560 t mining excavators, with a focus on the larger machines (360 t +) for
iron ore applications.
Q What would you say are the main attributes of the Hitachi models versus
other options?
A Hitachi puts its emphasis on the robustness and ease of maintenance to
reduce downtime and achieve high availability. This philosophy is

3 was commissioned at JSC Mezhdurech'e on
November 30, 2016. The regional service
company OMZ-Sibir-Service performed the
installation. Now three EKG-32R shovels are
working in Russia. One of them is working at JSC
Mezhdurech'e and the other two are working at
the Krasnobrodsky coal mine of
Kuzbassrazrezugol.
UZTM-KARTEX key export markets include
mining companies in India, Uzbekistan,
Kazakhstan and the company told IM that the
order books of both IZ-KARTEX and Uralmash are
filled for two years. Uralmash delivered its the
most powerful shovel to date, the EKG-35, to
Kuzbassrazrezugol in 2017. UZTM-KARTEX
through Uralmash also plans to release a new
hydraulic excavator in 2018, the UGE-300, with a
15 m 3 bucket capacity.
New Cat ® wheel loader with electric
drive
The new Cat ® 988K XE is the first wheel loader
offered by Caterpillar with a high-efficiency
electric drive system. The new wheel loader joins
the 988K and the recently launched 986K
mechanical drive wheel loaders to enable small
mines and aggregates operations to select the
most cost-effective loader for the application. The
988K XE delivers high production in all loading
applications and is recommended for demanding
job sites where fuel efficiency makes a difference
in the machine’s total cost of operation.
