Ground induced polarisation update from GDD
To be announced in 2018, the new Multi-Rx mode with GDD IP Receivers allows users to run distributed IP surveys including the possibility of achieving Qc / Qa of data directly in the field. It is already possible to merge and process data from a combination of multiple GDD IP Receivers output files from 2 to 32 channels using the GDD Post-Processing IP Software.
The new 20,000W-4800V-20A flexible Multi-Tx mode with GDD IP Transmitters, model Tx4, 5,000W-2400V-20A, allows the user to combine up to four units.“ Depending on your field conditions from very conductive to extremely resistive grounds, you have now the choice to use one, two, three or even four Tx linked together to reach the maximum power and investigate more deeply.”
The latest GDD Communication boxes( GDD- RTE01) allow users to collect live information( power and current) broadcasted by the GDD IP Transmitter, model Tx4 at the GDD IP Receiver PDA including the recording of the current in an output file.
The latest version of the GDD Post-Processing IP Software for Qc / Qa analysis allows users to merge data from multiple GDD IP Receiver output files, cancel the telluric noise using time-stamped signal from a remote station, and to disactivate some channels or even an entire reading.
The new borehole option of the GDD SCIP Tester allows users to measure resistivity and chargeability directly in drilling holes( exploration) and production holes( mines in operation) with real field conditions.
An efficient and inexpensive tool for magnetic and relative EM conductivity measurements, GDD has also improved the penetration depth of its Beep Mat in humid environments. One of the first innovative geophysical instruments developed and manufactured by GDD between 1976-80, it is still widely used for prospecting.
ORION 3D survey benefits
An ORION 3D survey, covering an area of 4 km 2 or more, can be completed in only three weeks and provides the most sophisticated electrical imaging of the subsurface possible, according to the technology developer and supplier Quantec Geoscience.“ There are virtually no limitations to the configuration of an ORION 3D survey. A survey covering an area of roughly 2 km x 2 km will provide deep 3D information to a depth of 2 km. ORION is a highly flexible 3D ground geophysical survey that can mobilise anywhere,
is unlimited by terrain and other surface conditions, and is perfectly suited to explore in sensitive areas.“
ORION 3D collects three sets of data in multidirections – DC Resistivity, IP( induced polarisation) to depths of 800 m, and deep MT resistivity to depths greater than 2,000 m. The design of the survey allows for complete omnidirectional coupling with geology, structure and mineral systems in the subsurface. This ability to measure in all possible directions means the system provides information on all possible orientations of subsurface structure and mineralisation. 3D surveys have no imaging bias imposed by survey geometry that can occur with traditional 2D.
Quantec’ s ORION 3D technology collects data along multiple lines and in multiple directions. The system collects more than 200,000 data points per survey.“ With more data and omni directional data the derived 3D images offer thorough exploration prior to drilling.”
Independently distributed receivers offer maximum flexibility for ORION 3D survey layout and design. A grid of receivers, which are responsible for a variety of functions are deployed in a grid.
For the IP survey the current is then deployed throughout the grid. Each current deployment( injection) is received across the whole grid by all the receiver dipoles at once. The current moves
