GERMAN TECHNOLOGY
Michael Wellenzohn, member of the DEUTZ AG Board of Management for Sales / Service and Marketing, adds: "” This supply agreement reinforces the enduring collaboration between DEUTZ and Putzmeister. We are delighted to be working together to achieve the conversion to Stage V engines. Our product range is ideally prepared for this challenge.”
DEUTZ decided early on to opt for exhaust aftertreatment using diesel particulate filters( DPF).“ As a consequence, while Stage IV still applies, DEUTZ ' Stage V ready ' engines already have, either as optional equipment or fitted as standard, the DPF systems which will be absolutely essential for Stage V. This means that DEUTZ has years of experience and a wealth of soundly-based expertise in employing DPFs.”
A strong Caterpillar footprint in Germany
Caterpillar has a strong innovation, design and manufacturing footprint in Germany. Two facilities and dedicated teams are producing industry leading mining products; they are Caterpillar Global Mining Europe GmbH in Lünen and Dortmund. The company told IM:“ Our Lünen campus has very deep roots in the region that date back to the early days of coal mining in Germany. Today, the Lünen team is focused on the design and manufacture of technologically advanced, autonomous mining solutions for both coal and hard rock mining. In 2016, Caterpillar launched a brand new longwall mining solution for hard rock miners called the Rock Straight System. This revolutionary new product for the extraction of tabular hard rock deposits was conceived, designed and manufactured in Lünen. Innovative new products and thought leadership by our engineering teams continue to be the future of this facility and underground mining. To fully understand our new and technologically advanced products built in Lünen, the facility has a state-of-the-art training centre where customers and Cat dealers can receive hands-on training with the iron.”
Another Lünen product is the new Cat ® HTD4100 High Torque Drive System for longwall armoured face conveyors, that enables a higher level of automation for enhanced speed and torque control and real-time monitoring, and its modular design simplifies installation and maintenance. The innovative system offers fast response and precise control to reduce conveyor chain wear and failures, and the high-torque motors deliver maximum torque independent of speed to optimise production while minimising wear.
The Dortmund team and facility are at the cutting edge of designing and manufacturing first class hydraulic mining shovels. The facility encompasses approximately 76,200 m 2 in the heart of Dortmund.“ The largest product our team designs and produces here is the Cat 6090 Front Shovel, it is the largest product of its kind weighing in at approximately 1,000 t fully loaded. The smallest product built here is the newly released 6015B. With the latest advances in machine design technologies and software programs, our design teams in Dortmund are building hydraulic mining shovels with class leading fuel efficiency. Newly patented technologies in the form of advanced engine controls and demand driven hydraulics are helping our customers achieve greater productivity at a lower cost.”
The company concludes:“ The Caterpillar team is a global one, and our culture of inclusion
The new Cat ® HTD4100 High Torque Drive System for longwall armoured face conveyors consists of two main components— a variable frequency converter and the motor-gearbox combination. In the new Cat system, a medium voltage converter-controlled torque motor replaces the AC induction motor. The control principle of the drive is Direct Torque Control— the most advanced AC-drive control technology available
and diversity is driving continuous improvement in our products and business. Knowledge sharing between our global teams – and in particular the cutting edge work from the teams in Germany – is driving our culture of innovation and directly impacting the growth and success of our customers.”
FAM progress continues at Mibrag
Under the leadership of FAM, the FAM-Actemium consortium recently completed the first setup phase of the Peres mass distributor by delivering it to Mibrag. The turnkey project involves mechanical engineering, steel construction, electrical engineering and control technology services as well as construction services for a mass distributor with various shifting heads and collection belts for exploring the new Peres lignite field in the Vereinigtes Schleenhain opencast mine in Germany.
