Most McLanahan frac sand plants begin the
process with a sizing screen to reduce the
top size to something close to 2 mm (10#)
or finer. This is followed by either one, two
or even three stages of wet separation

An attrition scrubbing phase is often used to
condition the surfaces of the sand, liberating
contaminants. Best adds, however, that it
should be noted that claims of shape
modification or ‘rounding’ of the particles in an

After a period of low activity, CDE Global says it
has witnessed an increase in demand from the
frac sands industry and this was particularly
apparent during CONEXPO in Las Vegas in
March with a large number of enquiries and a
very positive response for the newly launched
FracLine product range.
The company also unveiled its latest wash
plant, the M5500, at the show which was
shipped following the show to leading frac sand
producer, Hi-Crush. The UK-headquartered
company said in a statement that the new
machine can produce up to 550 t/h of washed
materials on a single chassis. A selection of
Infinity screens, the company’s new
development in screening technology, has also
been launched on the North American market
along with other new technologies.
FracLine is a modular frac sand processing
system designed for rapid deployment and a
significantly reduced plant footprint without
dewatered on Ultra Fine Recovery Systems
(McLanahan UFRs), and the resulting effluent is
typically treated in Thickeners for recovery of up
to 85% of the process water for immediate
reuse. Recessed Plate Filter Presses are used to
recover solids from the Thickener as an easily
handled ‘cake’ at around 20-25% moisture.
Best concludes: “As the most experienced
manufacturer of wet process plants for frac sand
production in North America, McLanahan is
uniquely placed with a complete in-house range
