WORLD PROSPECTS

Powerscreen enters Chinese market

Powerscreen, one of the world leaders in the crushing and screening industry, announced its intention to enter to the Chinese market recently at Bauma China, in Shanghai. In 2016 Powerscreen marked half a century of serving the crushing and screening industry around the world. Established in 1966, Powerscreen has achieved its five-decade legacy through industry leadership, customer input and innovation.“ We will leverage our strong global reputation and expertise to enter the Chinese market” said Colin Clements, Powerscreen Global Product Line Director.

Powerscreen pioneered the mobile concept of crushing and screening in many countries around the world“ taking the machines to the quarry face rather than the expensive process of moving the material to the machine. Powerscreen not only pioneered the mobile machine concept but also set new standards for many products and technologies that have become widely adopted in the industry, including the Chieftain and Warrior ranges of mobile screens.” In 2017, Powerscreen is launching the Warrior 1200 making the Warriors the most comprehensive and enviable range of mobile scalping units in the industry. The Powerscreen product portfolio is a comprehensive range of robust crushing and screening machinery that suits quarrying, sand & gravel, mining, demolition & recycling industries, contract crushing & screening companies and the rental industry and the first machines will enter the Chinese market in 2017.
“ We see a requirement for Powerscreen products working in the small recycling business, medium size contractors and mine sites in China,” said Willie Yin Business Development Director, Powerscreen China. Yin continued:“ While the Chinese market has traditionally used static crushing and screening equipment we believe there is an expanding market for the mobile concept. The key to the success of the Powerscreen brand is the global

Jameson Cells for Collahuasi

Glencore Technology has announced the latest sale of Jameson Cell technology for the Collahuasi copper mine in northern Chile, which has purchased two B6500 / 24 Jameson Cells for installation in their copper molybdenum flotation circuit. This will be the first application of Jameson Cells treating base metals in Chile.

Glencore Technology Jameson Cell Manager Virginia Lawson said the Jameson Cells will be producing final grade copper / moly concentrate in the cleaning circuit.“ The cells will treat the tails from the flotation cleaner column circuit, recovering copper and molybdenum not recovered from the columns. It is a good solution to be able to produce final grade concentrate from this stream. Our experience with Jameson Cells operating in copper moly operations is they have big advantages over other technologies. The high shear environment in the downcomer encourages the molybdenum to attach to the fine bubbles, while the concentrate wash water system in the cell enables the final concentrate grade to be achieved in one pass.”
Glencore Technology General Manager Paul Telford said the project’ s achievements were

Targeting mining business efficiencies

Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management and automation, has announced that mining group MMG Ltd has selected Schneider Electric’ s Manufacturing Operations Management( MOM) solution. Schneider Electric provided a single, turn-key solution that has provided improved global visibility and understanding of their Overall Equipment Effectiveness( OEE). As a result of this implementation, MMG has optimised asset utilisation across five mines, ultimately leading to a 10 to 20 % improved global capacity.

Similar to other mining companies, MMG was challenged to generate greater value and improve operational efficiency in order to best compete in today’ s economic environment.“ The company sought to implement change management strategies to transform how the company operates in order to increase productivity and profitability. The company chose Schneider Electric’ s Ampla MOM solution – coupled with business consultation services – to improve asset utilisation with a Commercial-Off-The- Shelf solution implemented in a cost-effective manner to deliver its target business efficiencies.”
“ We needed a long-term solution that would standardise our asset utilisation across our five mines. It had to provide us with a global understanding of OEE so that we could improve our business processes and ultimately improve our mine throughput,” said Mark Dwyer, Business Technology Manager at MMG Ltd.“ The solution needed to be flexible enough to adapt to the local operating conditions of each mine, while also providing us with standardised asset utilisation data that we could analyse in real-time.”
Schneider Electric’ s Ampla software solution now delivers real-time visibility into global production – converting legacy OEE data from a lagging indicator into a leading predictor of how asset investments are managed and optimised. Ampla is seamlessly integrated with other IT and OT systems to enable single sign-on, as well as to provide root-cause analysis of utilisation events.
Ampla’ s ability to connect multiple plant and business systems was another key consideration, as it enables MMG to capture more relevant data that is easily“ digestible” while delivered in real-time, so
distribution network; there are over 120 distributors operating globally providing local maintenance, education and support service to end users. This dealer network is something we will replicate in China,” said Yin.
Yin continued:“ At Powerscreen we believe understanding the customer requirements and applications is a vital first step in the crushing and screening process. This allows for the correct solution to suit production requirements and will result in a positive return on investment for the customer.” As part of the entry strategy in China an Applications Department has been established to provide the necessary guidance to the Chinese customers. www. powerscreen. com exemplary of the benefits which can be gained from long-term partnerships, having worked with Collahuasi for over 15 years.“ We work with our clients to ensure our technology delivers the best solution for their operation. Our approach focuses on whole of project-cycle support, including through the installation phase, commissioning and aftermarket service,” he said. Jameson Cells have recently been installed and commissioned in the Cadia copper / gold operations, along with recent sales to Australian zinc and copper operations in cleaner scalping duties. www. glencoretechnology. com
offers more valuable intelligence for analysis.
“ We had to have the capability to drill-down to the root-cause of any equipment asset that was exhibiting less than perfect utilisation. The new system and processes had to drive continuous improvement through the business, be readily accepted by users everywhere, and this had to be achieved in a single sign-on environment compatible with our existing systems,” said Dwyer.
For MMG Ltd change management was an important part of the asset utilisation program. Schneider Electric began the project with a business consulting exercise via a discovery services study that delivered a thorough understanding of the business requirements. www. schneider-electric. com
