solutions that include pumps, valves, seals and services is unmatched globally, which makes the Honeywell-Flowserve IIoT ecosystem unique for our customers.”
Honeywell and Flowserve have a long history of collaboration. HPS’ automation and controls technologies help automate and harness data at more than 10,000 manufacturing sites around the world. Flowserve instrumentation and services are co-located at many of those sites, including mineral processing operations such as SX-EW plants and concentrator facilities.
“ We see this collaboration between Honeywell and Flowserve as beneficial to continuously improving how we serve our customers with the latest technology, advanced software and analytics, and reliable services capabilities. Honeywell provides key infrastructure to collect and securely move data, while we embed decades of domain knowledge into predictive analytics for more business value, faster,” said Eric van Gemeren, Vice President, Research & Development, Flowserve.“ This collaboration will help us provide our customers with new insight through transformative service capabilities that lead to more powerful decision-making and process optimisation.”
The goal, Hird said, is a simple-to-use infrastructure that gives customers secure methods to capture and aggregate data, so that it can be leveraged by using analytics and applying a range of domain knowledge from a vast ecosystem of equipment vendors and process licensors.
“ With a larger, consolidated data set, manufacturers can apply higher analytics for more detailed insights, scale the data as needed to meet the varied needs of single-site or enterprise-wide operations, and leverage a wider pool of data experts for monitoring and analysis. Ultimately, Honeywell and its collaborators, including Flowserve, will leverage the IIoT to help customers minimise unplanned shutdowns, maximise output, minimise safety risk and optimise supply chain strategies. The Honeywell INspire™ program brings together a community of participants, including customers, equipment vendors, process licensors and Honeywell experts that will jointly develop solutions for a myriad of operational challenges.”
Microsoft cloud partnerships for ABB and Emerson
ABB and Microsoft Corp have announced a strategic partnership to help industrial customers create new value with digital solutions. Customers will benefit“ from the unique combination of the Microsoft Azure intelligent cloud and ABB’ s deep domain knowledge and extensive portfolio of industrial solutions.”
The two partners say they are committed to
empowering digital transformation in industry customer segments such as mining. By selecting Microsoft Azure as the cloud for its integrated connectivity platform, ABB’ s customers will now have access to an enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure that benefits from billions of dollars of ongoing investment.
“ Together with ABB, we are providing industrial customers with the digital technology and cloud platform to empower every person, team and business system within an organisation to glean new insights and drive faster decision making to seize new growth and opportunities,” said Satya Nadella, CEO, Microsoft.
“ This partnership will provide unique benefits to our customers in utilities, industry, transport and infrastructure, building on the combined strength of Microsoft and ABB,” said ABB CEO Ulrich Spiesshofer.“ Building on our installed base of more than 70 million connected devices and more than 70,000 digital control systems, the next step is to develop one of the world’ s largest industrial cloud platforms.”
The ABB Ability offering combines ABB’ s portfolio of digital solutions and services across all customer segments,“ cementing ABB’ s leadership in the energy and fourth industrial revolution. ABB’ s new integrated cloud platform will be a key enabler for ABB Ability and is expected to create a large, open, digital industrial ecosystem for customers, partners, suppliers and developers.”
Together, ABB and Microsoft say they will accelerate digital solutions that improve customers’ productivity by increasing uptime, speed and yield.“ As ABB standardises its platform on Azure, and expands its leadership in energy and the fourth industrial revolution, the company will take full advantage of Azure services such as Azure IoT Suite and Cortana Intelligence Suite to capitalise on insights gathered at every level from device, to system, to enterprise, to cloud.”
ABB and Microsoft have a long history of successful collaboration, and have delivered transformational end-to-end solutions across several industries including robotics, smart grids, marine and ports.
In another collaboration, Emerson announced at a recent Emerson Global Users Exchange that it is also working with Microsoft to help industrial manufacturers realise the business impact and value of Industrial Internet of Things( IoT) with

Emerson’ s recently announced Plantweb digital ecosystem and Connected Services, powered by the Microsoft Azure IoT Suite.
Plantweb,“ the most comprehensive and integrated Industrial IoT platform in the industry”, supports Emerson’ s vision to help customers leverage data, technologies and best practices to improve reliability, safety, energy management and overall operational performance across the enterprise. Plantweb is widely used in the mining industry for digital automation and control in mineral processing operations.
Extending a more than two-decade relationship, Emerson is also broadly adopting Microsoft’ s Windows 10 IoT technology, both in its DeltaV™ and Ovation™ control systems and in data gateways, for local data processing and to serve data to Azure IoT Suite. Emerson chose Microsoft to power its Industrial IoT applications for its comprehensive offerings that span the intelligent edge with Windows and the intelligent cloud with Azure.
The Azure IoT Suite“ provides Emerson with a scalable and secure cloud application environment as part of its Plantweb digital ecosystem.” Plantweb provides the technology and service framework for Emerson’ s Operational Certainty program, a strategic approach“ to help customers break free from stagnant financial performance through adoption of industry best practices and advanced technologies.”
Mining and other industrial companies“ can now leverage their existing investments in instrumentation sensors and communication infrastructure to power new applications to improve reliability, energy management, and safety. Today’ s new offerings mark an important step in Emerson’ s vision to provide its customers those applications deployed as Industrial IoT services, without the need for in-house domain experts.”
