It is significant that Krebs pumps were selected for the transfer of slurry from the underflow . The majority of pumps installed are Krebs slurryMax™ units with a smaller number of Krebs millMAX™ pumps being used . The pumps supplied range in suction internal diameters 80 mm through to 500 mm . These pumps will be handling flow rates from 35 m 3 / hr to 4,000 m 3 / hr .
One of the most important features of the slurryMax is its patented suction side sealing system . This feature , unique to Krebs , has an externally adjustable wear ring that closes the suction side impeller clearance between the suction liner and the eye of the impeller , whilst maintaining the primary clearance between the impeller shroud and the suction side liner . This primary clearance eliminates the problem conventional rubber lined pumps experience ; that of pressure pulsations caused by the close proximity of the rotating raised expelling vanes to the suction liner , necessary to maintain flow , and subsequently generating heat in the liner and rubber devulcanisation failure .
Osborn says this feature makes it ideal for high density pumping applications such as the Husab CCD thickener underflow one . “ The adjustment can be done while the pump is operational which eliminates the need to stop the plant during this activity .”
The ability to control the suction side clearance reduces the hydraulic recirculation and therefore contributes to maintaining the design flow over the life of the pump , increasing the life of the impeller . The extra thick rubber lining has rigid reinforcement to prevent collapse onto the rotating impeller under upset vacuum conditions . Impellers are available in metal or elastomers .
The tailings pumps , also supplied by FLSmidth , have been installed in series . These slurryMAX pumps will facilitate the transfer of material over the extended distance from the process plant to the tailings storage facility . Schwing Bioset says it is excited to be presenting during MINExpo 2016 the newest addition to its product line , the KSP 315XL . This new twin cylinder high flow solids pump equipped with the XL poppet valve , is capable of pumping up to 230 m 3 / hr at 150 bar material pressure . The company says : “ This pump is the most technologically advanced high solids pumping unit in the market . The KSP 315XL includes Schwing ’ s proprietary ‘ Synchro Flow ’ system for continuous material flow . The hydraulic cylinders include linear transducers for position sensing as well as a position sensor for additional redundancy . We have also upgraded the material cylinder rams for improved ram maintenance and replacement .”
Submersibles
Grindex , global supplier of electrical submersible pumps , has launched Grindex Mega Inox , a 90 kW ( 50 Hz ) pump made completely in stainless steel . The pump is built on the well proven cast iron Mega pump platform and at the same time is an extension of the current completely stainless steel Inox pump range . With this addition Grindex says “ it is reaffirming its leading market position within submersible drainage pumps and pumping accessories .”
The hardest challenge in dewatering applications is the combination of a corrosive environment and contaminated water with abrasive solids and tough handling due to the temporary nature of the installation . “ A protective coating will only protect the pump until the first scratch . The Grindex Inox range available from 2008 solves this problem by having dewatering pumps made completely in stainless steel . The 90 kW Mega Inox will considerably enhance the present range of Inox pumps , available in 2 to 8 kW ."
