NETWORKS AND COMMS
Connecting Global Competence functionality of a mine system via partnership with trusted suppliers . These include TRIO industrial I / O control , fibre optic networks , fan control , collision detection , Ethernet tracking plug and play , remote blasting and gas sensing . The company says " you ' ll be positioned well for growth with a flexible platform that allows you to take advantage of future developments without having to rebuild .” Tunnel Radio ' s M2MX interface bridges the language gap by opening up " a world of functional integration possibilities ” by interfacing with popular industrial control languages such as Modbus .
Mining is an industry which requires a high degree of collaboration of mining companies and suppliers . Making use of IT supported process optimisation and finally running a mine like a true Industry 4.0 optimised plant requires open interfaces and minimising the amount of communication and IT systems involved . MineTronics says it is now providing a complete set of products and tools for open mine optimisation .
First is an intelligent underground communication network . The intelligent network nodes provide all coordination relevant information in open formats to above ground servers like tracking information from mobile

devices , machines and people as IREDES tracking data sets . This tracking works with any WLAN device not requiring specific tags or mobile hardware . In addition customised apps on the network nodes are used for mining specific purposes like switching on rock breakers or conveyor belts on demand upon the LHD approaching the breaker . Also , special applications enabling the network to actively support mine safety , eg by providing guidance in case of emergency , have been designed .
The new Mobile Machine Gateway ( MMG ) is a communication computer for mobile equipment . It turns machine data into externally usable process relevant information , acts as a technical black box recorder for service purposes and provides remote access to the machine ' s electronics for service purposes . Also a separate access point can be included to allow service staff to wirelessly connect and diagnose a running machine using secured WLAN connections . The MMG is already used also in advanced Machine-To-Machine communication applications underground .
Finally , MineTronics decided to turn the base platform of its MineOpt software into an open source system . “ This allows mining companies , machine suppliers , academia and third parties to develop plugins and collaborative applications to be integrated into a networked mine process optimisation system which perfectly mirrors the individuality of every single mine without the need for expensive interface developments and software customisations . The system exclusively uses open standard based interfaces like IREDES for internal communication and for communication to external IT .”
CEO of MineTronics , Dr Christoph Mueller states : “ It is our goal to provide solutions which are as open and collaborative as possible and enable all parties involved to provide the maximum possible efficiency .” IM
