HIGH PROFILE - TEREX_proof 27/10/2016 13:00 Page 2 HIGH PROFILE Production Manager has been at Motherwell for 46 years and told IM: “Our trucks are known to be high in safety and high in quality. I have seen some major technology and efficiency progress over the years, with a machining job that used to take 36 hours now taking two, and welding technology moving from stick to wire welding.” The ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 certified factory is also a pioneer having originally developed some of the first rigid and articulated trucks in the industry. As part of the Volvo Group, Terex Trucks occupies the value brand niche, with Volvo having the premium brand. Being part of Volvo has brought some major improvements, such as the added efficiency of the Volvo Production System (VPS). Current production and distribution Today, ADTs account for about two-thirds of production by volume and RDTs one-third but in revenue terms the breakdown is closer to 50:50. Globally, Terex Trucks has over 10,000 trucks working and the home factory maintains a substantial customer parts inventory, separate from the production line parts inventory. Online 24/7 Factory-Approved parts service is available with parts being air freighted where necessary. Terex Trucks Factory-Approved parts are a key contributor to the business; with around 80% of the replacement parts shipped for the rigids, which take a lot more punishment being mainly used in 24/7 mining operations, so consume more parts, with a lot of ADTs used on construction and civil sites for shift earthmoving work. The trucks are normally assembled and shipped complete; with semi knockdown (SKD) kits shipped to Russia for ease of logistics, consisting of three main parts including the body and frame, with engine and transmission. These are shipped in one 40 ft and two 20 ft containers. As a lot of internal freight in Russia is by rail, the SKDs are needed to clear tunnels. The TR60 and TR100 models represent about 80% of the rigid sales, with the TR45 and TR70 making up the rest. The TR100 currently has a Cummins KTA38-C engine with the TR70 having a MTU 12V-2000TA. Terex Trucks said that its rigids were particularly renowned in the mining market for their superior torque driving out of the pit versus competitor trucks in the same class. Terex Trucks’ sales and support is delivered through a network of over 100 dealers; this is a mix of independent dealers and Volvo CE 60 International Mining | NOVEMBER 2016 dealers (where it makes sense), such as in France where Volvo CE France now distributes the Terex Trucks range.
