( see technology section).
In terms of production challenges, as elsewhere in the region a major factor is climate variation from down to-25 ° C in winter to + 50 ° C in summer, when engine overheating is a risk. Dust is also an issue in summer, managed using water trucks, with workers protected using air filters and enclosed cabs.
High angle conveyor KHK-270
The globally unique HAC was designed to significantly shorten the haulage transport distance. As stated it was initially developed to haul ore only by the Uzgeorangmetliti Design Institute and built by Ukraine-based NKMZ with installation completed in March 2011. Referred to by NKMZ as Cyclic and Continuous Technology( CCT) Ruda, the KHK-270 conveyor has a capacity of 3,500 t / h or 2,000 m 3 / y( 16 Mt / y) with ore crushed in a ДШ3-1300 / 300 sizer which was built by NMMC.
The HAC has an angle of 37 °, far in excess of existing high angle conveyors in other mines around the world which have mainly been limited to a maximum angle of 18 °. The use of trucks. Universal service, tyre maintenance and lube vehicles are used based on a Nissan chassis.
Overall the loading tool capacities range from 8 m 3 to the 22 m 3 EKG-20 machines that ideally match the 220 t trucks. Due to the 1:1 waste to ore ratio there is no separate waste and ore mining fleet with the machine allocation based on where flexibility and selectivity is required. As an example the hydraulic excavators are used in parts of the pit difficult to reach with the electricity transformers and cables needed to power the rope shovels. Ancillary equipment includes BELAZ water bowsers, Cat 992D wheel loaders for stockpile management, and special BELAZ recovery trucks of model 74131. Both Michelin and Bridgestone tyres are used.
The mine does all the shovel and excavator maintenance and service itself, with a special autotransport administration taking care of the truck fleet. In both cases minor maintenance is carried out in the pit using dedicated service vehicles, with more major scheduled or unscheduled maintenance conducted in maintenance shops outside the pit.
In terms of a scheduling and dispatch system, Muruntau initially designed its own technology and now uses a version designed in Uzbekistan.
Blasting is carried out weekly with explosives produced and stored on-site by NMMC. Russian made Nonel detonators are used. A large fleet of Rudgormash electric SBSH-250MNA-32KP drills is used. Each blast uses 1,000 t of explosives and 100 t of explosives blast 100,000 m 3 of material so about 1 Mm 3 of material is blasted per week or 2.4 Mt.
A major investment in equipment was made in 2013 / 2014, which saw the addition of 13 units of BELAZ 220 t trucks; three SBSH-250MNA-32KP drilling rigs; followed by the two EKG-20 rope shovels from IZ-Kartex in 2014.
The mine also uses express ore analysis with gamma activation to allow up to the minute reconciliation of gold grades from lab samples
