Continued from page 34 do, [ and ] we’ ve been doing it as the last song of the night for 30 years- since the [ original ] incarnation of the band, so we decided to do it. Jeff Duncan just happened to be in the studio when Bill( Metoyer) was mixing it, and( Bill) brought it up and( Jeff) did it. And it turned out fantastic.
Mosh: How’ d you get Bill Metoyer to mix the album? Gary Modica: I got turned on to him when we started working with Combat, and they were quite familiar with us as being an old-school metal band. Thom Hazaert, which is Dave’ s partner in the label, said there’ s like one guy for the job to work on this record and that he’ d hook us up. The next day I got the phone call from Bill, and we worked out all the details. He immediately hopped on the project, and we were at that point long before preproduction on any of the stuff, we were still going through the material. He was in on everything from the very first step all the way till the end. He really put his stamp on it. Bill or the label wasn’ t interested in any particular dates or rush it until all parties were happy. So it was worth the wait.
Mosh: Rage will be released on Oct 5. Any plans for a release party? G. G.: We’ ll be playing at Route 20 Outhouse in Wisconsin. We played with Armored Saint there before and UDO, it’ s a great bar. That will be our official release date, so we’ re doing an album release celebration party, and Dave( Ellefson) will come up and play a couple of songs. We’ re going to play the album in full, from front to back. It’ ll be an awesome night.
Mosh: Since the band’ s inception, what has been your most significant accomplishment? S. N.: I think the biggest accomplishment for us
is to be out there and doing what we like doing. It’ s a different game now. I don’ t think any of us are looking at this as anything more than the extreme fun of it. G. G.: Obviously, we want as much success as possible. But just like Scott says, it’ s a whole different ball game out there now. Bands just don’ t sell like they used to thanks to the internet. You want to get back out on the road. We’ re looking to get back to Europe next year. You don’ t go into it with the same thought as back in the’ 80s or even the early’ 90s of like we’ re going to sell a million copies. It’ s just not realistic anymore unless you’ re some huge pop band. But for the most part, you try to get your name out as much as possible, get out on the road, and that’ s what you do. And that’ s what we’ re looking forward to. Also appearing 10 / 4 at Brauerhouse, Lombard.
