Keys To The City

S

Disturbed and Tinley Park Mayor Coleen Sullivan
outhside heavy rockers Disturbed have defied the odds and remarkably remained intact as a band and as a cohesive unit for 20 years with all the same members ( consisting of David Draiman ( vocals ), Dan Donegan ( guitarist / keyboardist ), Mike Wengren ( drums ) and John Moyer ( bass ) and as a band for nearly 3 decades . Anecdotally they ’ ve flown under the radar for some of the mainstream press for much of their career though commercially ( as a Chicago area formed band ), they ’ ve been as nearly big as Smashing Pumpkins for two decades , carrying the torch from their Nu-Metal early days at the turn of the century . Despite their massive album , streaming , and ticket sales , the band knew they had arrived when the Village of Tinley Park gave them keys to the city while they were in town for their “ Take Back Your Life .” tour at Credit 1 Amphitheatre . Tinley Park mayor Colleen Sullivan shared a photo of the key

presentation on Instagram and wrote , " What an amazing night recognizing Disturbed in front of their hometown crowd of Tinley Park ! It was an honor to present them with a Key to the City on behalf of the Village Board & the Village of Tinley Park !" The band was equally thrilled , commenting , " Thank you to the Mayor of Tinley Park , @ colleen . sullivan71 , and to all of the trustees and board members for this sentimental moment ." Our IE editors made the mistake of not putting them on the cover after their 2001 debut ( The Sickness ), and we have paid the price ever since ; someday , we ’ ll get there , and it will be almost as big as keys to the city !

The Beatles & The Stones

T

he age-old musical question of who ’ s better ? The Rolling Stones or The Beatles is a cliché at this point , but when we heard Paul McCartney played bass on a Rolling Stones track (“ Bite My Head Off ”) on their forthcoming album Hackney Diamonds ( their first original album in 17 years ), we asked what took so long ? You classic rock historians will know that Beatle John Lennon played with various Stones as far back as Rock and Roll Circus Days ( 1968 ), but Pauly had never performed with Jagger and Richards on an album . In an interview with Q on CBC , host Tom Power asked Jagger to describe the chance opportunity . Paul was in L . A . working with Stones producer Andy Watt and the stars aligned when Macca agreed to play bass on a Stones song . “ We suggested he played on this punk tune . I didn ’ t know how it was gonna work out , but he really rocked it , and he loved doing it . He said , ‘ It ’ s great playing with a band ! Really enjoyable playing with a band ’,” Jagger said . Hackney Diamonds drops on October 20 , and it also features guest appearances by Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder .
