Wright ’ s glassy electric piano signals the moody intro to “ Sheep ,” which was developed from Waters ’ earlier song “ Raving and Drooling .” The enhanced rhythm section again gives the song more drive , and Gilmour ’ s clarion riffs and solos bristle with energy . Guthrie ’ s remix makes the song ’ s dark twist on the 23rd Psalm more discernible ( the part most reminiscent of the Dr . Who theme ), amplifying the triumph by the emboldened sheep during the final verses . The Blu-ray format contains all of this and more . Brian Humphries ’ 1977 stereo mix appears in uncompressed high-definition sound , allowing the original mix to be heard by fans with unprecedented dynamics and detail . Guthrie ’ s 2018 mix is also available in hi-def audio . A third hi-def program in 5.1 surround sound offers more fun with an immersive listening experience for people with an appropriate home theater setup .
The visual element is important to any Pink Floyd project , particularly those overseen by the late Storm Thorgerson ’ s Hipgnosis design studio . The original Animals cover featured Pink Floyd ’ s inflatable pig prop Algie flying above the industrial scene of the coal-fired Battersea Power Station , which sits along the Thames River near central London . With imagery from the present-day site , Hipgnosis has designed a new cover that is instantly recognizable but colder and even more oppressive than the original . The LP includes a 28-page book with lyrics , images from the 1976 cover photo shoot , band photos , and images of inflatable props designed for 1977 ’ s In the Flesh tour .

THE KINKS Muswell Hillbillies / Everybody ’ s in Show-Biz Everybody ’ s a Star 50th anniversary
( RCA / BMG )
Even casual fans recognize the Kinks ’ brilliance on classic ‘ 60s albums like ** The Village Green Preservation Society , timeless singles like “ You Really Got Me ” and however , Muswell Hillbillies represents a high-water mark for Ray and Dave Davies . The ensuing album Everybody ’ s in Show-Biz was transitional work yet showed the group at peak creative engagement and brimming with fresh ideas . This lavish box chronicles a period when the Kinks were evolving from British Invasion-era groundbreakers toward reinvention as a touring juggernaut upon returning to American theaters following a musician ’ s union ban . The set also illuminates Ray Davies ’ growing affinity for album-length conceptual writing . 1971 ’ s Muswell Hillbillies features fan favorites like the tormented and vaudevillian “ Alcohol .” The bluesy “ Holloway Jail ” follows suit with a tale of poor decisions and outsized consequences . Dave Davies ’ guitar riffs during “ Here Come the People in Grey ” sound like he ’ s directly foreshadowing the Rolling Stones ’ 1974 single “ It ’ s Only Rock ‘ n ’ Roll ( But I Like It ).” The homespun “ Have a Cuppa Tea ” is charming , silly , and as determinedly British as Village Green , but much of the album explores the Davies brothers ’ fascination with American roots music and southern sounds . “ 20th Century Man ” delves into country , adding explosive rock and roll at the apex of a song that rejects hollow modernity . “ Skin and Bones ” borrows its style from the African-American spiritual “ Dem Bones ” and plantation song “ Shortnin ’ Bread ,” telling the comical tale of a plus-sized beauty whose crash-course diet goes too far . The New Orleans-styled homage “ Acute Schizophrenia Paranoia Blues ” ambles like a second-line parade troupe with a Dixieland brass and woodwind arrangement . The gentle and wistful “ Oklahoma USA ” evokes dreams of escaping working-class drudgery to a rustic but idyllic and Technicolor-hued fantasy . The rollicking and acoustic “ Muswell Hillbilly ” is set amid the brothers ’ claustrophobic post-war London roots while imagining escape to seemingly exotic locales with wide-open spaces like West Virginia , Louisiana , Oklahoma , Tennessee , and “ those Black Hills that I ain ’ t never seen .” 1972 double album Everybody ’ s in Show-Biz scores with the melancholy epic “ Celluloid Heroes ,” casting an outsider ’ s light on bittersweet and faded American dreams . Touring life inspires underrated gems like The Band-influenced road warrior ’ s lament “ Here Comes Yet Another Day .” The calypso-infused “ Supersonic Rocket Ship ” recalls its earlier counterpart “ Apeman ” from 1970 ’ s Lola versus Powerman and the Moneygoround , Part One . This time , Ray imagines a trip to a sci-fi utopia instead of a simpler life among the treetops . The second half of Show-Biz compiles a live set from two nights in 1972 at Carnegie Hall , leaning heavily upon Muswell Hillbillies fare . The band ’ s sparkling brass trio ignites “ Acute Schizophrenia Paranoia Blues .” John Gosling ’ s barrelhouse piano , Dave ’ s catchy riffing , and brass intertwine during the aerobic workout “ Skin and Bone .” A bonus platter on orange cream vinyl adds nine more Carnegie Hall cuts , with more Muswell Hillbillies songs nestled among classic sinh
