COVER STORY: GRETA VAN FLEET
Greta Van Fleet has resurrected classic Rock N'
Roll. A few cynics have dismissed them as mere
imitation. But a sincere listen to their debut LP
Anthem Of The Peaceful Army, hearing the foursome
talk about their love of what they do and their
deep dive into blues, folk and rock influences, and
one can’t help but see them as anyone other than
who they are. With the amount of homogenization
in music today, it’s not unthinkable but inevitable
that incarnations would come full circle. Imitation?
Or reincarnation (before the prior musical souls
have passed)? That, philosophically, is where you
find Greta Van Fleet. IE's Penelope Biver spoke to
the band the day they sold out three December
shows at Chicago's Aragon Ballroom. Rock is back.

HELLO MY NAME IS JIM
Jim Kerr hasn't stopped making new music with Simple
Minds, and co-founder Charlie Burchill is still along for the
ride, touring behind their 18th studio album, Walk Between
Worlds. The band just finished an overseas run with Kerr' ex-
wife Chrissie Hynde's combo The Pretenders. Their daughter,
Yasmin, even came out to support the folks. "And she brought
her family along -- I have grandkids now," Kerr marvels at the
passage of time. Tom Lanham spoke to the Scottish music leg-
end. They come to Chicago Theatre on October 15.

ENUFF Z'NUFF
Chicago power-pop rockers Enuff Z’nuff are back, though,
they never really went away. “We’ve somehow stayed relevant a
little bit, and I think it’s because we didn’t stop playing,”
bassist/vocalist Chip Z’nuff said about the band’s longevity dur-
ing a recent phone call to Kelley Simms. “We kept putting music
out every year or two, and we toured around the country playing
songs. And I think it’s paid dividends.“ They come to House of
Blues in Chicago on October 25.
