Don ' t Knock The Prog
After the death of legendary keyboardist Keith Emerson earlier this year, the timing seemed right for local promoter Kevin Pollack to revisit his progressive music festival that proved so successful at Reggie ' s Music Joint in the South Loop in 2014.
" I ' m really excited about bringing Progtoberfest back to Reggies this year! It was so much fun two years ago and I’ ve been asked numerous times when the next prog fest would happen. What I love about working with Reggies is we know how to keep progressive rock alive in Chicago, and I think people really appreciate that. So we ' re coming back this year bigger and better. This year ' s festival is dedicated to the memory of Keith Emerson. There ' s going to be some cool Emerson tributes featuring various artists over the 3-day fest. We ' ll be showing rare concert footage on various screens so

Chance The Rapper Photo by Curt Baran
Chicago ' s Chance the Rapper finally put the ghosts of disco demolition to bed at the old Comiskey Park as he hosted Magnificent Coloring Day at US Cellular Field last month. IE ' s Curt Baran and Jessi Roti covered the day long event
It was exactly this blending of genres that seems to have influenced Chance the Rapper – especially as of late. But it took Chance, the 23-year old, South Side native and premier ambassador of Chicago’ s betterment for all to put it together at US Cellular Field, home of his beloved White Sox. From 1 pm’ til nearly midnight, 47,000 fortunate ticket holders and others able to stream at home were treated to a magnificent moment in Chicago musical history and a beautiful celebration of love and faith on the city’ s South Side.
As the fireworks appeared above US Cellular Field and Chance gave his final thanks to all the artists and fans who showed up on the South Side( before EDM producer and DJ Skrillex closed the night), it was like another world had been created; a world where true coexistence, genuine kindness, and the divine power didn’ t seem so far-fetched. Chance the Rapper’ s spirit, and smile, is infectious and it needs no cure.- Read the full show review by Jessi Roti at illinoisentertainer. com

Tom Jones
At 76, Grammy-winning Welsh vocalist Tom Jones could easily be resting on an impressive lifetime of showbiz laurels that began with his 1965 Along Came Jones debut, including being knighted in 2006 by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to music. Instead, he’ s entered a Renaissance period, which has included two seasons of coaching contestants on The Voice UK, a tell-all autobiography, last year’ s Over the Top and Back( accompanied by an album of some of his favorite R & B obscurities, Long Lost Suitcase), plus two stunning Gospel records helmed by red-hot young producer Ethan Johns, 2010’ s Praise & Blame and 2012’ s Spirit in the Room. Aided by his manager son Mark, he’ s more relevant than ever in 2016, with a deeper, more resonant singing voice that reflects his four decades of road-seasoned experience. He also bravely rose above a recent tragedy – the death this April of his wife of 59 years, Lady Linda. Unsure if he could continue performing at first, he has now regained his concert composure via an extensive Suitcase American tour. A year late. But better late than never.
