Common sense said it wouldn't last long, but Chicago's Animal
Kingdom was shut down last month according to Leor Galil in the
Chicago Reader. Animal Kingdom wasn't a new nightclub fighting for a
slice of the live music pie, it was a 120 year old soon to be foreclosed
"party house" in Avondale struggling to host legal and licensed DIY
parties featuring local indie bands and a few touring bands that didn't
mind the well-intentioned, but spare accommodations.
As summer progressed, Animal Kingdom's shows attracted more fans,
and neighbors complained to police and 33rd ward alderman Deb Mell.
