Of course , the centerpiece of this set remains the Who ’ s Next album , which many critics and fans consider to be the Who ’ s very best release . The album gets the royal treatment it deserves with a respectful but interesting remaster in high-definition format . Popular surround mixer ( and Porcupine Tree frontman ) Steven Wilson has produced an immersive multichannel mix . The set contains 11 discs for hours and hours of listening . Many of the non-album tracks will be familiar to those who know the Lifehouse Chronicles set , but those who only track material under the main Who studio albums will be in for a treat when hearing striking songs like “ Mary ” and “ I Don ’ t Even Know Myself .” Those who have enjoyed Townshend ’ s Scoop albums will know that his demos are highly listenable and expose different aspects of familiar songs . In addition to the songs completing the Life House set , the box includes curiosities like drummer Keith Moon ’ s “ Waspman .” Originally appearing on the “ Relay ” single , the loony song was dubbed “ the ultimate bee-side .” Daltrey plays harmonica on the chugging instrumental while Moon makes buzzing noises interjected by cries of “ sting !” Bassist John Entwistle ’ s tour travelogue “ Postcard ” is here in its original version , with a different bass part and horn arrangement than heard on Odds & Sods . Mementos and memorabilia include a pair of posters with photos from concerts in 1970 and 1971 , two replica programs from 1971 tours , a press photo with reproduction autographs , and a set of four pins . Early reports have identified a drawback of the tightly packed box , with the photos and programs in many sets arriving damaged by the pin clasps . There have also been quibbles that because demos of post-1971 songs “ Sister Disco ” and “ Who Are You ” were included on Lifehouse Chronicles , they should have been included here for a comprehensive presentation of Lifehouse . Those demos are probably being reserved for a future deluxe reissue of the Who Are You album . In any case , this set includes every song from the originally planned 1971 track listing , with multiple glimpses into songs like “ Time is Passing .” These non-Who ’ s Next songs could previously be found out of context on b-sides and demo collections , including Hooligans , Odds & Sods , Scoop , Who ’ s Missing , with a couple like “ Teenage Wasteland ” and “ Greyhound Girl ” in context on 2000 ’ s Lifehouse Chronicles set . Two concerts are included . Significantly , one of them is from the actual Lifehouse workshop setting at the Young Vic Theatre , dated April 26 , 1971 . In the context of the box set , it ’ s an exciting glimpse into Who history and what could have been . The band performed several Lifehouse songs , including songs like “ Behind Blue Eyes ” and “ Bargain ,” which became key tracks on the as-yet-unreleased Who ’ s Next . The set concludes as the intimate audience cheers for a feral young version of “ Won ’ t Get Fooled Again ,” long before its status as a classic rock staple . The current generation of Who fans have heard Roger Daltrey ’ s bone-rattling scream at the song ’ s apex in recent concerts . It ’ s thrilling to hear the singer doing the same as a young man more than 50 years ago . The band also cuts loose with lively Maximum R & B covers of “ Young Man Blues ” and “ Bony Moronie .” A show on December 12 , 1971 , from San Francisco ’ s Civic Auditorium offers a different cross-section of songs following the release of Who ’ s Next . Entwistle ’ s non-Lifehouse track “ My Wife ” is performed during a set of the new album ’ s material and staples like “ I Can ’ t Explain ,” “ Substitute ,” and “ Magic Bus .” The show is anchored by a block of material from Tommy . Overall , Who ’ s Next | Life House is a treasure trove for fans of Who lore and the most comprehensive representation of Townshend ’ s original vision for Lifehouse circa 1971 . The Lifehouse story and production were more musically and technically complex than the predecessor Tommy , afact that led to the project ’ s undoing . Although Lifehouse wasn ’ t to be , the tough decision to focus on its individual songs led to one of the greatest albums of the rock era . The experience also focused Townshend ’ s sensibilities as a writer of rock opera and led to the conceptual masterpiece Quadrophenia .

ELECTRONIC Get The Message The Best of Electronic
( Warner ) Electronic was a Manchester supergroup of sorts - bringing together New Order ' s Bernard Sumner and The Smiths ' Johnny Marr . It was as good on vinyl as it was on paper - infectious dance grooves and an indie guitar virtuoso . If you ' re starting your journey with the band , their debut ( Electronic ) is a benchmark album in the tailend of the acid house era , where rock and dance vibes ( and ecstasy ) merged at its zenith , just before the Grunge takeover . Throw in the helping hands of Neil Tenant of Pet Shop Boys , and Electronic became nearly the perfect pop band . Get The Message – The Best of Electronic is definitely a misnomer . Sure , the hits are here . The disco lounge classic " Getting Away With It , and infectious " Funky Drummer " meets Manchester indie dance " Get The Message ." But much of the rest of this 2-CD reissue is loaded with valuable but not for everyone remixes , plus a bunch of later album clunkers . Electronic ' s out-of-print final album ( 1999 ' s Twisted Tenderness ) iswellrepresent- ed here (" Vivid ," " Late At Night , " Like No Other "), which is puzzling because ten years after their debut , Marr and Sumner had largely lost their magic .
