COVER STORY: THE STRUTS
Luke Spiller of The Struts is the kind of guy
fans want to be seen hanging out with, an honest
to goodness old-school rock star, even if it’s just for
a quick selfie at the merch table. "I tend to be a her-
mit, for the most part,” says Spiller, who now lives
in Los Angeles with his girlfriend of four years,
model Laura Cartier Millon. In 2015, Interscope
wisely transplanted Spiller and his bandmates,
guitarist Adam Slack, bassist Jed Elliott, and drum-
mer Gethin Davies. “But if I genuinely like some-
one, and I see something in them that I admire and
find interesting, I will go out of my way to make
some sort of connection and build a relationship,
just like I would with anyone.” Tom Lanham
talked to The Struts' bon vivant.

HELLO MY NAME IS MIKE
A
s far as album titles go, Linkin Park guitarist Mike
Shinoda couldn’t have chosen a more apt — and dignified
— one than Post Traumatic, which pretty much sums up the
surreal, decidedly painful past year of his life. On May 26 in 2017,
Chester Bennington – his band’s charismatic but mercurial mouth-
piece – stood up at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery and delivered
one of his most touching performances ever, a heartfelt rendition of
Leonard Cohen’s signature dirge “Hallelujah,” as his good friend
Chris Cornell was laid to rest after a rumored suicide. Two months
later, on July 20, Bennington himself committed suicide by hanging,
just as the group’s seventh monolithic set One More Light was
rolling out. It was a shock that no one saw coming. Tom Lanham
talked to Shinoda.

CAUGHT IN A MOSH: JEREMY WAGNER
Cinemascopes
Many know Chicago legacy death-metal stalwarts Broken Hope’s
guitarist Jeremy Wagner for his music. But some of you may not know
that Wagner is also an accomplished fiction writer who has just
released a new horror novel Rabid Heart (Riverdale Avenue Books).
The 258-page post-apocalyptic nightmare tells the tale of a worldwide
pandemic that infects people with a Necro-rabies disease, turning them
into zombies. Influenced by Stephen King’s The Stand, George
Romero’s Day of the Dead and Cormac McCarthy’s The Road, Rabid Heart
takes the reader on a thrilling white-knuckle ride. Kelley Simms talked
to the talented Wagner.
Anticapted Queen bio pic is finally here.
