COVER STORY:
PUBLIC IMAGE LIMITED
John Lydon – former Sex Pistol firebrand and
current anchor of the inventive art-rock ensemble
Public Image Limited, or PiL – has heard all the
tall tales of his notorious irascibility. But he simply
doesn't see himself as being any kind of belligerent
instigator, let alone even modestly temperamental.
Tom Lanham tells us five important things that
Lydon would like you to know. If you're remotely
curious about understanding his true nature, and
his new tour that visits Concord Music Hall this
month.

GARBAGE
In February 1983, Australian quintet Men at Work won
the Grammy award for Best New Artist. The band's 1981 debut
album Business as Usual was a runaway hit. "And we are the Men,
and we'll see you again," frontman Colin Hay had said upon collecting his Grammy statue. 35 years and several solo albums
later, Hay talked to Jeff Elbel about his rollercoaster of success
and the emotional ride he has taken over the last three decades
years to get to a semi-peaceful place.

Record Store Day Black Friday edition, '60s grage bands get their due.
Shirley Manson knows what she's talking about. The
Scottish rocker – formerly of two popular homeland bands,
Goodbye Mr. Mackenzie and the dark, enigmatic Angelfish
– is currently celebrating two platinum-selling decades with
her third outfit, Garbage, the supergroup she formed with
renowned Nirvana producer Butch Vig and his fellow knobtwiddling musicians Steve Marker and Duke Erikson. And
they've just issued a 20th Anniversary edition of their megahit
eponymous debut. And the quartet is backing it with – of
course – an extensive world tour, dubbed "20 Years Queer,"
that has already steamrolled across America. Tom Lanham
talked to the legendary wildcat of Scotland.
